Virginia C. Bowen

Virginia Catherine “Ginny” Bowen, 84, of Plattsburgh, N.Y., died Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Powhatan Nursing Home, Falls Church, Va., after a short illness.
She was born at Walton, a daughter of the late Willie M. Hively and Nora M. Lowe Hively Sparr. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters, Ann Sharland of Falls Church and Martha Yeako of Millsboro, Del.; one son, Harry Ray of Plattsburgh; and four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Ray Bowen Sr.; her stepfather, George Sparr; one brother, Ernest L. Hively; and three sisters, Ruby Steele, Beulah Mae Shiltz and Freda Hively.
Service was Saturday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Garry L. Bowen officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.

Obie Leroy Coe

Obie Leroy Coe, 79, of Spencer, died Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Miletree Center after an extended illness.
He was born at Ovapa, a son of the late Obie James and Reatha Fay Holland Coe. He was a retired employee of Spencer State Hospital. He was an army veteran of the Korean War and a Christian.
He is survived by four children, Rick, Tommy Joe, David Allen and Tina Louise, all of Spencer; one brother, Jack of Indiana; three sisters, Eloise Grimm of Florida, Waneda Sawyer of Spencer and Phyllis Coe of New Jersey; and one grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Oka, Ola “Curly” and Jerry; and two sisters, Irene and Wavelene.
Service was Wednesday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Leon B. Strickland officiating. Burial was in Coe-Holland Cemetery, Clover, with military rites.

Icie Criner

Icie Criner, 93, of Duck, died Saturday, May 3, 2008 at home.
She was born at Nicut, a daughter of the late Annis and Rebecca Vaughn Hardway. She was a member of Clay First Baptist Church. She was a cook at Shady Lawn Nursing Home, Dalton, Ohio, and at Orma Elementary School. She was also a home caregiver.
She is survived by four daughters, Marie Marks of Fairmont, Waneta Marks of Duck, Ruth Burnside of Ivydale and Cora Criner of Clay; two sons, Denver “Leon” of Akron, Ohio, and James “Jim” of Glendon; and 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Denver Criner; and three sisters, six brothers and two grandchildren.
Service was Tuesday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Gary Maynor officiating. Burial was in Criner Cemetery, Wilsie.

Helen K. Webb

Helen K. Webb, 89, of Bridgeport, died Friday, May 2, 2008.
She was born in Nitro, a daughter of the late William Franklin and Ima Mae Moses Walker. She was a Methodist.
She is survived by seven children, Harold Short of The Villages, Fla., James Short of LaGrange, Ga., Patricia Conner of Rock Hill, S.C., Ruth Griffith of Ripley, Joyce Hess of Circleville, Ohio, Roy Short of Hepzibah and Linda Ott of Bridgeport; two stepchildren, JoAnn Nutter of Spencer and Steve Webb of Lawton, Okla.; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren and several step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orliss Webb; two brothers, Boone and William Walker; and two sisters, Ruby Epling and Violet Young.
Service was Monday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.

Roscoe Boggs

Roscoe Boggs, 82, of Big Otter, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Big Otter.
He was born in Clay County, a son of the late Earle and Eliza Smith Boggs. He was a navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a retired Clay County teacher and member of Clay County Masonic Lodge #97 for over 50 years.
He is survived by three children, Jane, Brent and Chris.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Melissa Hendee.
Graveside service is 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at Boggs Cemetery, Big Otter, with Masonic rites by Lodge #97. Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Ronford Nelson Clarkson

Ronford Nelson Clarkson, 77, of Clover, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Roane General Hospital.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Darrell and Rosa Webb Clarkson. He was retired from Duffield Manufacturing, was an oil field worker and had owned a recapping business. He was an army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by two sons, William “Wormy” and Robert “Heavy,” both of Clover; one sister, Virginia Fisher of Spencer; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Mae Conner Clarkson; one brother, Ronald Darrell; and one sister, Vemeda Rhodes.
Service was Friday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery with military rites.

Mollie DeWees

Mollie DeWees, 99, of Spencer, died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Roane General Skilled Nursing Facility.
She was born in Roane County, a daughter of the late John and Florence Brannon.
She is survived by two daughters, Mildred Yoak Bowen of Millstone and Elsie Rhodes of Mineral Wells; two sons, John Parsons of Spencer and Nelson Parsons of Texas; and 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death three husbands, Gomer Parsons, Carl Carper and Harry DeWees; one stepson, Garland Parsons; and one grandchild and one great-great-grandchild.
Service is 1 p.m. today at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Damon Rhodes and Rev. David Lancaster officiating. Burial is in Carpenter Cemetery, Orma.

Wilma R. Epling

Wilma R. Epling, 76, of Spencer died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at home.
She was born in Wirt County, a daughter of the late Virgil and Vandena Ashley Westfall. She worked at Kellwood Company for 20 years, and was a homemaker. She was a member of Little Creek Baptist Church and also attended Gilboa Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Delores “Jeanie” Longfellow of Spencer and Shelia Bode of Elkview; two sisters, Pearl Hudson and Sharon Brown; three brothers, Robert, Carroll and Kelsie Westfall, all of Ohio; and six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Homer Paul Epling; one daughter, Jennifer Denise; and one sister, Sandra Brown.
Service was Wednesday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Strickland and Rev. James Epling officiating. Burial was in Little Creek Cemetery.

Charles ‘Keith’ Estep

Charles “Keith” “Keiffer” Estep, 27, of Looneyville died Thursday, April 17, 2008 in an oil rig accident in Upshur County.
He was working for S.W. Jack Drilling Company. He attended Gilmer County High School.
He is survived by his parents, Larry and Brenda Estep; two brothers, Tommy and Creed, both of Looneyville; one sister, Shawna of Looneyville; and one grandmother.
He was preceded in death by three grandparents.
Service was Thursday at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet, with Rev. Toney George officiating. Burial was in Massey Cemetery, Winifrede.

Kenneth W. Fisher

Kenneth W. Fisher, 58, of Clover, died Thursday, April 24, 2008 at home.
He was born in Roane County, a son of Josephine Holland Fisher of Clover and the late John Fisher. He worked for the W.Va. Department of Highways, Kellwood Company and was a laborer.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, William of Indian Town, Fla.
Service was Sunday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Whited officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.

Flara B. Gherke

Flara B. Gherke, 97, of Grantsville, died Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, Grantsville.
She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of John and Biddie Kerby. She was a homemaker and member of Lower Steer Run Baptist Church, Normantown.
She is survived by seven children, C. Eugene of Millsboro, Del., Marge of Grantsville, Pauline Vanhorn of Sissonville, Jurlene Thorn of Spencer, Radene Kuhl of Walker, Lorene Hathaway of Elkview and Arlene Kay Smith of Williamstown; one sister, Bertha Webster of Grantsville; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Cleburn L. Gherke; one son, Ardene; two sisters, Almedia Stump and Goldie Ball; and four brothers, Allie, Simon, Hagan and Bob.
Service was Sunday at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Elder Mark Minney and Rev. Curtis Smith officiating. Burial was in Collins Community Cemetery, Stumptown, with Rev. David Vanhorn officiating.

Nancy Lee Rowh

Nancy Lee Rowh, 72, of Doylestown, Ohio, died Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Hospice Care Center.
She was born in Spencer, a daughter of the late Harley and Nelvie Rowh. She retired from Akron General Medical Center, Ohio, after 34 years. She was a Methodist.
She is survived by one daughter, Charlene Hayes; one sister, Donna Hickman; one brother, Joel; and two grandchildren.
The body was cremated. Service is 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at Manchester United Methodist Church, Akron, with Rev. Stephanie Lee officiating. Inurnment is in Meadows Cemetery. Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, Barberton, Ohio, is in charge of arrangements.

Garland Ray Alvis

Garland Ray Alvis, 73, of Spencer, died Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Roane General Hospital.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Ray and Emma Jean Watson Alvis. He worked in construction and with Commodore Blosser. He also worked in the oil fields on drilling rigs and as a pipeliner.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Goff Alvis; two sons, Matthew Ray of Jackson County and Jason Duane of Spencer; one stepson, Orland “Gene” Norman; three daughters, Marsha Jarvis, Patsy Nichols and Sarah Beth McTree, all of Spencer; two stepdaughters, Lela Bommel and Garnet Seese; one sister, Rosalee Morris of Ravenswood; four brothers, Roger and Don, both of Spencer, and Danny and George, both of Parkersburg; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Chini.
Graveside service was Wednesday at Groundhog Cemetery, Wirt County, with Rev. Jackie Roberts officiating. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lloyd G. Brannon

Lloyd G. Brannon, 78, of Reedy, died Friday, April 18, 2008 at CAMC General Hospital, Charleston, after an extended illness.
He was born at Uler, a son of the late John Thomas and Delphia P. Bailey Brannon. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and worked on small engines at his shop at home. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 175 and the Operating Engineers Local 132, Charleston. He was a member of the Mt. William Baptist Church, Palestine.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice McCutcheon Brannon; one son, John of Normantown; four brothers, Charles of Charleston, Maxell of Reedy, John Franklin “Curly” of Akron, Ohio, and James of Huntington; two sisters, Dorothy Farnsworth of Palmdale, Calif., and Marlene Harris of Akron; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Wilma; and one brother, Robert Eugene.
Service was Tuesday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Walton officiating. Burial was in Mt. William Cemetery, Palestine.

James R. Britton

James R. Britton, 71, of Reedy, died Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at home after an extended illness.
He was the son of the late Dwight and Beulah Stewart Britton. He was a graduate of Spencer High School and retired from Kellwood after 37 years. He was a member of Dry Point Church, Reedy, and attended Good Hope Church of Reedy.
He is survived by one son, Ronnie of Reedy; and three grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emogene Nichols Britton.
Service was Sunday at Good Hope Church with Rev. John Price officiating. Burial will be later in Sims Cemetery, Reedy. Matheny Whited Funeral Home, Elizabeth, was in charge of arrangements.

Walter E. Camp

Walter E. Camp, 79, of Spencer, died Sunday, April 20, 2008, after a sudden illness.
He was born in Spencer, a son of the late John R. and Lucy Hickman Camp. He was of Advent Christian faith and attended Alexander Baptist Church. He retired from Century Aluminum. He was a Spencer High School graduate.
He is survived by his wife, Nada Stalnaker Camp; five children, Robert of Collierville, Tenn., Stephanie Rader of Charleston, “Stormy” Stalnaker of Spencer, Debbie Stalnaker of Spencer and Don Stalnaker of Omaha, Neb.; and nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one wife, Rosealea Carte Camp; two brothers, Frank and Delbert; and two sisters, Ruth Camp and Evelyn Miller.
Service is 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Charles L. Davis and Pastor Robert R. Walker officiating. Burial is in Eventide Cemetery.

Charles E. Carpenter

Charles E. Carpenter, 62, of Clio, died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at home after a short illness.
He was a son of the late Edward L. and Mildred Patton Carpenter. He was an employee of Norris Industries and graduate of Walton High School. He was a Christian, minister and pastor.
He is survived by three sisters, Frances Marion of Elkview, Joyce Robertson of Charleston and Ann Hart of Washington, N.J.; and one brother, Phillip of Clio.
Service was Monday at Myers Funeral Home Chapel, Elkview, with Rev. Jack McCune and Brother Richie Marion officiating. Burial was in Payne Cemetery, Clio.

George F. Deremo Jr.

George F. Deremo Jr., 73, of Spencer, died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston, after an extended illness.
He was born at Alhanbra, Calif., a son of the late George F. and Alice Seegar Deremo.He was an army veteran. He was a professor of art at Morehead University, Kentucky, and Cerritos College, Norwalk, Calif., for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia K. Deremo; and one brother, Charlie of California.
The body was cremated. Service is 1 p.m. Saturday at Busch-Kimes Funeral Home, Elizabeth. Visitation is two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Roger Allen Edgell

Roger Allen Edgell, 60, died Sunday, April 20, 2008.
He was born in Spencer. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox after 32 years.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lenamae; two sons, Jeff and Larry; his father, Leon; one sister, Donna; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita.
Service is 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at Bacher Funeral Home, Norton, Ohio, with Pastor Bob Combs officiating. Burial is in St. Nicholas Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Ray Goodwin

Ray Goodwin, 80, of Amma, died Friday, April 18, 2008 at home after an extended illness.
He was born at Amma, a son of the late Otmer and Icie Ellen Carper Goodwin. He was a retired pipeliner. He was a member and deacon of the House of Prayer, Left Hand. He was also an army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eula Nichols Goodwin; three sons, Steve of Uniontown, Ohio, and Roger and Russell, both of Amma; two brothers, Clyde of Left Hand and Ron of Looneyville; three sisters, Marie Dennis of Amma, Faye O’Dell of Walton and Opal O’Dell of Tariff; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Otto, Frank, Ralph, Bill, Danny Joe, Earl and Waitman; two sisters, Addie Butcher and Artie Allshouse; one half-brother, Jim; and one half-sister, Roxie Lesher.

Woodrow C. Harper

Woodrow C. “Woody” Harper, 81, of Harmony, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at home.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Lewis G. and Myrtle M. Thomas Harper. He worked for Spencer State Hospital and was the owner of Harper’s General Store, Harmony. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and an army veteran.
He is survived by one daughter, Debra Kight of Harmony; two sons, Woodrow “Butch” of Burbank, Ohio, and Travis of Harmony; and six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Grace Harper.
Service was Saturday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel McClung and Rev. Leon Strickland. Burial was in Gandeeville Cemetery.

Ressie Murrell King

Ressie Murrell King, 96, of Orma, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Miletree Center.
She was born at Orma, a daughter of the late William and Emma Bailey Allen. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Blaine King; one son, Willard Ray White of Parkersburg; two sisters, Ethel Waldeck and Chloe Cover, both of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Blake Allen of Mason; one half-brother, Roger Allen of Grantsville; two stepchildren, Debra Sinclair and Kenneth King, both of Fairmont; and two grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband, Alton White; one brother, Rex; three sisters, Nell, Juanita and Ann; and one half-brother, Lowell Allen.

Bessie Margaret Ledsome

Bessie Margaret Ledsome, 96, of Reedy, died Friday, April 18, 2008 at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley.
She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late George and Bessie Stump Wilson. She worked for Viscose and O.J. Morrison. She was a member of Good Hope Church, Reedy.
She is survived by one son, Heisel of Reedy; one sister, Ocie Fowler of Grantsville; one brother, Raleigh “John” Wilson of Parkersburg; and two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tona A. Ledsome; and one grandson.

Audra Mae Parsons

Audra Mae Parsons, 79, of Belleville, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Parkersburg, after an extended illness.
She was born in Roane County, a daughter of the late Bradford and Retha McCune Young. She was a homemaker and had owned Parsons Garage, Reedy. She was a Baptist.
She is survived by two sons, Marcus Paige of New Hampshire and Steven of Belleville; two sisters, Louella Parsons and Karen Higgins, both of Canton, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Paige Parsons; one son, James Gregory; and one sister, Virginia Coe.
Service was Saturday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Leisure officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.

John Russell Romine

John Russell Romine, 76, of Spencer, died Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at home.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late John William and Nancy Emily Drake Romine. He retired from Spencer State Hospital. He was an army veteran and member of Mt. Herman Community Church.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sue McKown Romine; one daughter, Teresa Robinette of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; three sons, Johnny of Broadway, Va., Bobby of Fulks Run, Va., and Jimmy of Spencer; and 10 grandchildren.
Service was Sunday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Jackie Roberts officiating. Burial was in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery with military rites.

Ray L. Siers

Ray L. Siers, 87, of Chloe, died Friday, April 18, 2008 at Miletree Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late James L. and Alice Butler Siers. He was retired from Union Carbide Company and an army veteran of World War II, for which he received two bronze stars.
He is survived by two daughters, Janet of Chloe and Janice Forney of Temple, Texas; one stepson, Ernest Edgell of Richlands, Va.; two sisters, Nell Jarvis of Spencer and Verba King of Ohio; one brother, Shirley of Charleston; and seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Metz Siers.
Service was Monday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in Minnora Cemetery with military rites.

Ada B. Slider

Ada B. Slider, 92, of Arnoldsburg, died Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Roane General Hospital.
She was born in Calhoun County. She was a homemaker and member of Louisa Chapel United Methodist Church, Arnoldsburg.
She is survived by one daughter, Naomi Starcher of Monroe, N.C.; one son, Larry of Cameron, N.C.; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Slider; and her parents, Waitman and Mary Blake.
Service was Wednesday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Loren Price officiating. Burial was in Gibson Cemetery, Arnoldsburg.

Phyllis Irene Snider

Phyllis Irene Snider, 76, of Ravenswood, died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Ravenswood Village.
She was born in Roane County, a daughter of the late Hallie Mace. She was retired from Roane General Hospital and was a member of RGH Auxiliary.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Armstead of Clendenin and Sheila Marks of Palestine; one brother, Dorsey Mace of Riverton, Wyo.; and one grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Franklin Snider.
Private graveside service was at Eventide Cemetery. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Achilleus M. Zappas

Achilleus “Alec” Mathew Zappas, 65, of Conroe, Texas, died Monday, April 7, 2008.
He was born at Grantsville, a son of the late Theodore and America Zappas. He graduated from Greenbrier Military Academy and attended Spencer High School. He was an airborne ranger and army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Zappas; two sons, Aaron and Alec, both of Texas; five stepsons, Bert, Tom, Dennis, Barry and Paul Ward, all of Texas; and numerous grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Michael.
Graveside service was Friday, April 11 at Veterans National Cemetery, Houston, with military rites.

Nell C. Kincaid

Nell C. Kincaid, 91, of Brunswick, Ga., died Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Hospice of the Golden Isles, Brunswick.
She was born in Spencer, a daughter of the late Homer and Ethel Reger. She retired from Brunswick Manufacturing Company and was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by one son, Weldon Bragg; four daughters, Janet Bragg, Jana Odum, Janice Bartlett-Gassert and Opal Carter; two sisters, Rose Peters and Pauline Carper; and nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Service was Tuesday, April 8 at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Park with Jim Wright officiating. Burial was in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.

Stanley George O’Brien

Stanley George O’Brien, 71, of Hartville, Ohio, died Sunday, April 13, 2008.
He was born in Spencer. He was a navy veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He retired from Republic Storage Systems after 27 years. He was a member of Hartville Church of Christ.
He is survived by his mother, Clara O’Brien of West Virginia; five children, Cynthia Cugini and Kenneth O’Brien, both of Hartville, and Karen Wilson, Rebecca Perkins and Jennifer Morrow, all of Alliance, Ohio; five sisters, Ethel, Nancy, Paulette, Gloria, Tresa; four brothers, Larry, Jake Paul, Dean and Michael; and 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; his father, Romie George O’Brien; and six brothers and one sister.
Service is 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at Arnold Funeral Home, Hartville, with Dean Miller officiating. Burial is in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio.

Jerry Clinton Parsons

Jerry Clinton “Jack” Parsons, Jr., 42, of Spencer, was found dead in his apartment, Wednesday, April 9, 2008.
He was born in Charleston, a son of Jerry C. Parsons Sr. of Walton and the late Dottie Lou Hively Parsons. He had worked as a laborer.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his stepmother, Wanda Parsons; three sisters, Janice Rucker of Mt. Holly, N.C., Phyllis Taylor of Walton, Vicki Nunn of Mt. Holly; one brother, Jeffrey of Walton; and one grandmother.
Service was Tuesday at Walton Union Church. Private burial will be later in Billy Hunt Cemetery, Walton. John H. Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I.W. ‘Wes’ Snodgrass III

I.W. “Wes” Snodgrass III, 90, of Gandeeville, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Roane General Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born at Gandeeville, a son of the late I.W. II and Harriett Greenlee Snodgrass. He retired from E.I. DuPont after 37 years. He was a lifelong member of Gandeeville United Methodist Church and a member of Masonic Lodge #150 AF&AM. He also helped arrange public water service for Gandeeville.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ella Doris Sloan Snodgrass; two daughters, Barbara Tolley of Pinch and Patricia Rhodes of Luling, La.; three sons, Isaac W. “Mike” IV of Spencer, Phillip “Ed” of Apex, N.C., and Richard of Florida; and seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Ben and George; one sister, Rosalyn; and several half-brothers and -sisters.
Service was Monday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Jones and Rev. Jerry Malona officiating. Burial was in Snodgrass Cemetery, Gandeeville.

James M. Starcher

James M. Starcher, 72, of Bowie, Md., died Wednesday, April 9 at Bowie Medical Center.
He was born at Otto, a son of the late Carl and Hester Starcher. He attended East Bank High School. He retired from Dirt Plus Excavating in Upper Marlboro, Md., and was a member of Operating Engineers, Local 132. He was an army veteran. He was a member of Moose Chapter 1350 in Upper Marlboro and of American Legion Post 206.
He is survived by three brothers; Whetzel of Tariff, Curtis of Melbourne and Jack of Ivydale.
Service is 1 p.m. today (Thursday) at Beall Funeral Home, Bowie. Burial is in Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery, Cheltenham, Md. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Lung Association of Maryland, Executive Plaza I – Suite 600, 11350 McCormick Rd., Hunt Valley MD 21031.
