Katherine Ann Bauer
Katherine Ann Bauer, 53, of Reedy, died Monday, April 13, 2009 at CAMC General Hospital, Charleston.
She was born in Corbin, Ky., a daughter of Bill Hackworth of Washington and the late Sylvia Gooden Hackworth. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Ronald Bauer; sons, Billy Adams, Robbie Bauer, Ronald Bauer II, and Timmy Bauer, all of Reedy, Roger Adams of Walton, Will Bauer of Looneyville and Donald Bauer of Speed; sisters, Billie Sue Carey and Wanda Raines, both of Washington; and 17 grandchildren.
Service was Wednesday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home. The body was cremated.
Denver R. Gandee Jr.
Denver Ray Gandee Jr., 56, of Spencer, died Friday April 10, 2009 at his home.
He was born in Spencer, a son of Denver R. Gandee Sr. and Erma Harris Gandee, both of Spencer.
He was a former Roane County magistrate and municipal judge for the city of Spencer. He was formerly employed as a manager at Heck’s, as an aide at Roane General Hospital and as a dispatcher for Roane County 911. He attended St. John’s Episcopalian Church in Ripley and, while in high school, was active in the FFA and was a Star Farmer in 1976.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Adam Gandee of Spencer; and his partner, Robert Hall of Spencer.
Service was Sunday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, with Rev. Marie Mulford officiating. Burial was in Eventide Cemetery.
D. Justine Miller
Delma Justine Miller, 80, of Spencer, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at home after a brief illness.
She was born at Millstone, a daughter of the late Allen Brown and Icie May Duvall Starcher. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1945. She was a homemaker, but had other jobs including at Paden City Pottery, Rubber Fabricators in Grantsville, and G.C. Murphy in Spencer. She retired from Spencer State Hospital in 1989. She enjoyed sewing, reading and gardening.
She is survived by a sister, Nina Boatright of Atlanta; daughters, Sharon Burns and Kathy Phares of Fayetteville, and Allison Miller of Spencer; son, Dr. Timothy Miller of Kingwood; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Corley Miller; brothers, Melvin, Delbert, Aldine, Victor, Ray, Vere, Richard and Denver; and sisters, Opal Nitz, Beulah Burden and Pauline Starcher.
Service was Saturday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg with Gene H. Miller officiating. Burial was in the Barr Cemetery in Calhoun County.

Lewis E. Louie Nida
Lewis Edward Louie Nida, 66, of Lafferty, Ohio, formerly of Walton, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry, Ohio.
He was born in Charleston, a son of Hershal and Levina Young Nida. He was a 1960 graduate of Walton High School and retired from Ohio River Colliers Coal Company and was a retired truck driver. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Lafferty Moose Lodge.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Carol S. Glover Nida; children, Lewis Nida Jr., of Martins Ferry and Tabatha Wilson of Nashville, Tenn.; step-children, Ed Phillips of Bethesda, Ohio, and Leanna Tippie of Lafferty, Ohio; a brother, Richard Nida of Martins Ferry; a sister, Carolyn McCroskey of Walton; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Hattie Ann Nida; and a brother, Paul Nida.
Service was Friday with military rites by the Belmont County Council of American Legions at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, with Rev. David Powell officiating. Burial was in the Parkview Cemetery, Wheeling.

Romie Leo Parsons
Romie Leo Parsons, 73, of Bumpass, Va., died Wednesday, March, 25, 2009.
He was a son of the late Herb and Opal Lupardus Parsons Lowther. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Virginia Electric and Power.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda; daughter, Becky Potter; step-daughter, Sammy Smoat; sisters, Roberta Huffman of Spencer and Betty Scharaff of Massillon, Ohio; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and one step-grandson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Sue Parsons; brother, Roma Lee; and sisters, Violet Fields, Mary Parsons, and Garnet Walker.
Service was Tuesday, April 2 at Spotswood Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Stone officiating. Burial was in Culpeper National Cemetery.
Mildred A. Moales Sturm
Mildred Anne Moales Sturm, 85, of Mt. Zion, died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Roane General Hospital following an extended illness.
She was born in Kanawha County, a daughter of the late Jacob T. and Esta O’Dell Moales.
She is survived by a son, Dana Sturm of Buckhannon; a daughter, Rhonda Price of Arnoldsburg; sister, Iva Lee Dodd of Boise, Idaho; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Fred Sturm Jr.; sisters, Phyllis Litton, Virginia Acree Carlin, Louis Kirk Lipscomb; and brothers, Camden and Earrie Moales.
Service was Wednesday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg with Rev. Jeffrey Moales officiating. Burial was in the O’Dell Cemetery on Dutch Ridge.
