Franklin Nichols Anderson

Franklin Nichols Anderson, 77, of Chicago, formerly of Tanner, died Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at his home.
He was born in Spencer, a son of the late Clarence “Dock” Anderson and Mary Flesher Anderson. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and he was awarded the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was retired from the B&O Railroad-Chessie System with 34 years of service. He was a Christian.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Anderson of Chicago; a step-son, Larry Wilfong of Glenville; sister, Martha Buck of Ravenswood; a grandson and two nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his foster parents, Smith and Lula Belle Nichols; and brothers, Don and George Anderson.
Service was Tuesday at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial, with military graveside rites, was in Moss Cemetery, Cedarville.

Nolan Ray Butler

Nolan Ray Butler, 75, of Chloe, died Friday, June 4, 2010 at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston.
He was born at Orma, a son of the late John and Lena Conrad Butler. He worked in the pipeline construction industry for several years.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Launa Butler; a daughter, Bev Mullins of Chloe; sons, Rick Butler of Grandy, N.C., and Ron Butler of Princeton; a sister, Murilene Witt of Cocoa, Fla.; seven grandchildren and a step-grandson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Ilene Metz and Norma Stuck; a brother, Arlen Butler; and a grandson.
Service was Monday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Tim Hickman officiating. Burial was in Yost Cemetery, Chloe.

Wilbert Lee Dawson

Wilbert Lee Dawson, 64, of Spencer, died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Roane General Hospital.
He was born in Clay County. He was a retired department store sales clerk, a member of Little Laurel Missionary Baptist Church, Masyel and a member of Clay Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by a cousin and caregiver, Janice Beckett of Spencer; and several other cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Dawson; and a dear friend, Mary White.
Service was Sunday at Little Laurel Missionary Baptist Church. Burial was in Little Laurel Church Cemetery.

Jackie Lee Hardway

Jackie Lee Hardway, 65, of Arnoldsburg, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Roane General Hospital after a short illness.
He was born in Kansas, a son of the late Donald and Bonnie Yost Hardway. He was retired from Monarch Rubber Company and worked as a Class A welder at Ravens Metals.
He is survived by daughters, Brenda May Cline of Parkersburg and April Gay Hardway of Gandeeville; sons, Leonard E. Hardway of Arnoldsburg and Donald Gary Hardway of Parkersburg; sisters, Norma Jane Drake of Yellow Creek and Janice Lynn Blake of Mt. Zion; brothers, Denzil Daris Hardway of Orangeburg, S.C., and Leonard Earl Hardway of Palestine; and several grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Perry Hardway; and a son, Jackie Lee “Punkin” Hardway Jr.
The body was cremated. Service was Saturday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home.

Helen Carpenter Harris

Helen Carpenter Harris, 85, of Spencer, died Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Roane General Hospital.
She was born in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late James and Beulah Burch Carpenter. She was a graduate of Normantown High School and Glenville State College. She received her graduate education at West Virginia University. She taught in the Roane County school system for several years as a mathematics teacher, school counselor and school psychologist. She was a member of Roane County Democratic Executive Committee and the Spencer Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by a son, Douglas Ray Harris of Spencer; sisters, June Westfall of Ohio and Mary Lou Powell of Wadsworth, Ohio; and a brother, Douglas Carpenter of Virginia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Ray Harris; a sister, Ann Stalnaker; and a brother, Gary Carpenter.
Service was Wednesday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Pastors Tom Fletcher and John Powell officiating. Burial was in Collins Community Cemetery, Stumptown.

Loretta E. Mace

Loretta E. Mace, 88, of Mason, Ohio, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Cedar Village in Mason.
She was born in Spencer, the daughter of the late Guy C. and Iva Evans Davis. She was a homemaker and a Christian. She was a 1939 graduate of Spencer High School. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 14, Hathor Court #3, and the Caravan of the Ladies Orient Shrine.
She is survived by her son, Charles E. Starcher of Mason; daughters, Glenna Veith of Oakton, Va., and Donna Jean Webb of Lawton, Okla.; a step-daughter, Gloria L. Tayman of North Beach, Md.; a step-son, William P. Mace of Brentwood, Md.; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Mace.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial will be in Fairplains Cemetery. Visitation is today (Thursday) from 2-4 p.m. Condolences may be expressed online at LeavittFuneralHome.com.

Lee Roy McIntyre

Lee Roy McIntyre, 70, of Newton, died Monday, June 7, 2010 at CAMC General Hospital in Charleston.
He was a son of the late Isaac and Ruby McIntyre. He was a welder and pipefitter at Occidental in Belle.
He is survived by his wife, Goldie Boggs McIntyre; sons, Jim McIntyre of Marmet and Tim McIntyre of Uler; sisters, Shirley Bradley of Ohio and Betty Helfeldt of Texas; a brother, Tom McIntyre of Sand Ridge; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Bob and Junior.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Tariff Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. until time of service on Friday.

Jerry M. Moore

Jerry M. Moore, 70, of Normantown, died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Minnie Hamilton Health System, Grantsville.
He was a son of the late Caylord and Virgie Sands Moore. He was a retired teacher from Columbus, Ohio.
He is survived by his second wife, Judy Collins-Moore; children, Betty Dolder, Chris O’Hara and Cheryl Moore, all of Columbus; step-children, Shelley Cogar of Charleston and Kelly Cogar of Louisville, Ky.; sisters, Nora LeGates of Delaware, Coleen Hardman of Barberton, Ohio, Monoka De Santis of Akron, Ohio, and Sandra Rollyson of Clendenin; and five grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis A. Moore.
The body was cremated. Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, PO Box 15120, Chicago IL 60693. Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway, was in charge of arrangements.

Jewell Fields Niday

Jewell Fields Niday, 80, of Hickory, N.C., died Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Sterling House of Hickory.
She was born in Roane County, a daughter of the late Fenton and Vesta Spencer Fields. She was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Ross M. Niday; daughters, Patricia Niday of Johnson City, Tenn., and Jane Carpenter of Hickory; a sister, Golda Conley of Charleston; a brother, Junior Fields of Tariff; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Niday; brothers, Award and Larry Fields; and two grandchildren.
Service was Monday at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel, Hickory, with Rev. Ernie Richards officiating. Burial was in Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory. Frances Courtney Nielsen

Frances Courtney Nielsen, 68, of Gainesville, Va., died Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Heathcote Health Center, Haymarket, Va.
She was a daughter of the late Fren Thomas and Dixie Epling Courtney.
She is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Nielsen of Gainesville, Va.; a son, Stephen Jay Nielsen of Gainesville; brothers, Charles Courtney of Hometown, George Courtney of Oakwood, Ohio, and Ervin Courtney of Charleston; a sister, Effie Cooper of Parkersburg; and two grandsons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Nielsen; brothers, Herman Courtney and Tommy Courtney Jr.; sisters, Audrey Cassell and Eleanor Cantrell.

Stephen Scott Nutter

Stephen Scott Nutter, 50, of Spencer, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston, after a short illness.
He was born in Spencer, a son of Charlie Nutter of Clover and JoAnn Nutter of Spencer. He was a Christian and a lifelong pipeline construction worker. He was a member of Union Local #132 Operating Engineers and Moriah Lodge #38 AF&AM. He was a supporter of local athletics.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his step-mother, Jeanie Nutter; a sister, Lisa Simmons of Spencer; brothers, Michael Shane Nutter of Clover; Kevin Nutter of Spencer; a step-brother, Richard “Skip” Board of Frozen Camp; and a long-time companion, Linda Spencer.
He was preceded in death by a step-brother, Ray Board; and a half-brother, Tim Stewart.
Service was Friday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, with Rev. Russell Stump and Rev. Danny Whited officiating. Burial, with Masonic graveside rites, was in Clover Cemetery. Webster Clyde Sinnett Jr.

Webster Clyde Sinnett Jr., 83, of Spencer, died Friday, June 4, 2010 at Roane General Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born at Roxalana, a son of the late Webster Clyde and Emma Frances Jarvis Sinnett. He was a 1949 graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. In 1952, he and his brother established Sinnett Funeral Home in Spencer, which he operated until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association and the W.Va. Funeral Directors Association.
He was one of the founders of Roane General Hospital and was a charter member of the RGH board of directors. He was a long-time member of Traders Bank board of directors. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 21, Spencer. He was a member of Rush Creek Baptist Church near Spencer. He was a member of Linden Lodge #83 AF&AM, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple, all for over 50 years.
He is survived by daughters, Sharon Stewart of Spencer, Marilyn Harrison of Wilmington, N.C., and Debra Sinnett of Miami; a brother, John W. Sinnett of Fredericksburg, Va.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.
Service was Monday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home (the former Sinnett Funeral Home), with Rev. Michael F. “Mike” King officiating. Burial, with Masonic graveside rites, was in Eventide Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed online at taylorfuneralhomeinc.com.

Elwanda Lee Whited

Elwanda Lee Rader Keller Whited, 81, of Spencer, died Saturday, June 5, 2010 at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston, after an extended illness.
She was born in Roane County, a daughter of the late Jesse Milford and Hallie Comet Burgess Rader. She retired from Standard Oil Company, Cleveland, in 1985. She attended Faith Baptist Church. Her interests included traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Cerne of Charleston; a son, Greg Westfall of Spencer; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Bruce Westfall Jr.
Service is 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, with Rev. Wayne McGlothlin officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Memorial Cemetery.
