Anthony ‘Tony’ Hamrick

Anthony Allen “Tony” Hamrick, 60, of Gandeeville, died Monday, May 17, 2010 at his home after an illness.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Williams Noyes and Aldena Rhodes Hamrick. He held many jobs, including at an asphalt plant, oil field work and most recently as a well tender. His interests included gardening, yard work and other activities.
He is survived by his companion, Carol Cuta; a daughter, Aimee Chapman of Ohio; sons, John Hamrick of Spencer and Zebediah Hamrick of Walton; sisters, Mary Rose Zenau of Gandeeville, Susie Linkinogger of Spencer and Pancheta Scammel of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; brothers, Bobby “Corny” Hamrick of Gandeeville and Eddie Hamrick of Corsicana, Texas; and five grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin infant children and brothers, Bill, Tom, James and David Hamrick.
The body was cremated. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. There was no visitation.

Jerry R. Mace

Jerry R. Mace, 57, of Gandeeville, died Sunday, May 16, 2010 at his home after an extended illness.
He was born at Gandeeville, a son of Ruth Nichols of Spencer and the late Denzil Mace Sr. He attended Walton High School and was a self-employed carpenter. He also worked for Randolph Construction and Houchin Construction. His interests included fishing and hunting. He was a Christian.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by Carol Copen; a daughter, Chastity Rogers of Ripley; sons, “Jay” Jerry Mace II and Shay Mace, both of Gandeeville, and Kenny Mace of Spencer; a sister, Sharon McCortney of Ohio; brothers, Denzil Mace Jr. of Gandeeville, Wayne Holcomb of Virginia and David Holcomb and Daniel Mace, both of Spencer; his step-mother, Anna Mace; and seven grandchildren.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Henry Nichols; sisters, Carolyn Mace, Debra Wolfe and Winnie Vandale; and a brother, Kenneth Holcomb.
The body was cremated. A private service will take place later. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. There was no visitation.

Lisa Pauline Metheney

Lisa Pauline Metheney, 45, of Vicco, Ky., died Thursday, May 13, 2010 at A.R.P. Hospital, Hazard, Ky.
She was born in Cleveland, a daughter of the late Richard and Mary Christian Douglas.
She is survived by her husband, Dwain Metheney; a daughter, Erin Metheney of Brinkley, Ky.; sons, Dwain Metheney Jr. and Darryl Metheney, both of Hindman, Ky.; brothers, Richard and Scottie Douglas, both of Cleveland; and two grandchildren.
Service was Tuesday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in Metheney Cemetery, Nebo.

Michael ‘Shultz’ Pursley

Michael Ray “Shultz” Pursley, 55, of Spencer, died Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Eldercare Health and Rehabilitation, Ripley, from Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia.
He was the son of Genevieve Pursley of Spencer and the late Orland Ray Pursley. He served in the U.S. Air Force and had been employed at Kaiser Aluminum, Ravenswood, and at Picture Perfect in Spencer as a photo lab operator and photographer.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Robin Metz Pursley; a son, Nathan Ray Pursley of Morgantown; sisters, Dianna L. Sutter of Columbus, Ohio, and Patricia Pursley of Spencer.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Owen Pursley.

Bobby E. Rhodes

Bobby E. Rhodes, 76, of Ripley, died Monday, May 17, 2010 at Eldercare of West Virginia, Ripley.
He was born at Ryan, a son of the late Coly E. and Wilma West Rhodes. He was a coal miner and retired from the UMWA.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Balderson; daughters, Brenda Jones of Walton, Linda McClanahan of Walton; a step-son, Paul Balderson; step-daughters, Rosalie Fridley, Mary Davis and Sharon Abner; sisters, Lois Randolph, Kay Boggess, Karen Rhodes and Louise Smith; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill Rhodes, Burl Rhodes and Okey Oscar Rhodes.
Service is today (Thursday) at 1 p.m. at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with Pastor Rick Perrine officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Sissonville.

Garland ‘Lannie’ Simmons

Garland Dewayne “Lannie” Simmons, 83, of St. Albans, died Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Teays Valley Hospital, Hurricane.
He was born in Spencer, a son of the late Waitman and Ollie Webb Simmons. He worked at West Virginia Steel Corporation, Union Carbide and Putnam Fabricating as a welder. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hamrick of Versailles, Ky.; a son, Mike Simmons of Atlanta; a stepson, Fred Hamrick of Versailles; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta “Birdie” Sampson; brothers, Hugh “Sib”, Frank, Hal and an infant, Howard Simmons.
Service is today at 10:30 a.m. (Thursday) at Simmons Cemetery, Clover. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Hermie Frances Taylor

Hermie Frances Taylor, 68, of Walton, died Friday, May 14, 2010 at her home.
She was born in West Virginia, a daughter of the late Clyde and Virginia Dixon Nichols Sr. She was a homemaker. Her interests included cooking. She attended Leatherwood Primitive Advent Christian Church in Elkview.
She is survived by her husband, Arnold Lee Taylor; daughters, Teresa Phillips of Elkhart, Ind., and Dreama Fields of New Paris, Ind.; a son, Daniel Lee Taylor of Elkhart; sisters, Barbara Scott of St. Cloud, Fla., Marie Seesholtz of Somerset, Ohio, Delores Jones of Hammond, Ind., and Deanna Karlen of Elkview; brothers, Cody Nichols of Spencer, Raymond Nichols of Charleston, Roger Nichols of Altoona, Pa., Clyde Nichols Jr. of Dunbar and Donald Nichols of Elkview; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Taylor; a brother, Calvin Nichols; and a great-grandson.
Service was Tuesday at Leatherwood Primitive Advent Christian Church, with Rev. Roger Hammonds officiating. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Walton.

Kaylee Marie Taylor-May

Kaylee Marie Taylor-May, infant daughter of Amber Taylor and Kyle May, both of Gandeeville, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital in Charleston.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Gary and Lisa Taylor and Eugene and Patty May, all of Gandeeville; and several other family members.
Service was Sunday at Zion Hill Cemetery, Elana, with Rev. Larry Greathouse officiating. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
