Ruby Graham Carper

Ruby Graham Carper, 88, of Left Hand, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008 at CAMC General Hospital, Charleston.
She was born at Bloomington, a daughter of the late Gay and Orpha Moore Graham. She was a homemaker and member of Linden Chapter No. 152, Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by three sons, Ken of Tallmadge, Ohio, Cookie of Mogadore, Ohio, and Roger of Hartville, Ohio; five daughters, Frances Sutphin of Akron, Ohio, Margaret Hays of Ravenna, Ohio, Doris Drake and Judy Truman, both of Left Hand, and Sallie Engle of Elkview; one sister, Mary Via of Delaware; and 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Guy P. Carper; and seven brothers and one sister.
Service was Saturday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Michael F. “Mike” King officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.

Elwood B. ‘Cub’ Koon

Elwood B. “Cub” “Bubblegum Man” Koon, 84, of Clinton, Ohio, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008.
He was a son of the late Samuel and Melissa Starcher Coon. He was retired from Rockwell International. He was a World War II army veteran, a member of DAV Stadleman Post #35, Columbus Post #888 American Legion and a charter member of VFW Post #5783.
He is survived by one son, Mike; two daughters, Sharon Lindeman and Melissa Varrecchia; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris May.
Service was Sunday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with military honors by members of Roane County veterans groups. Burial will take place later in Koon Cemetery.

Annie Jean McIntosh

Annie Jean Haynes McIntosh, 81, of Tariff, died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 at CAMC General Hospital, Charleston.
She was born in El Paso, Texas, a daughter of the late David Houston and Carmen Barclay Haynes. She was a homemaker and a volunteer for school and community projects. She served as a chairman of the Rural Health Education Program. She was a Presbyterian and member of Linden Chapter No. 152, Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by two daughters, Leona Price of Terra Alta and Mary Ann Yevuta of New Martinsville; two sons, James David of Tariff and Newman Alan “Rusty” of Pittsboro, N.C.; and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholson Alan McIntosh.
Eastern Star service is 7 p.m. today (Thursday) at John H. Taylor Funeral Home. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local committee on aging.

Mildred Hope Moore

Mildred Hope Steele Moore, 81, of Parkersburg, died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008.
She was born at Walton, a daughter of the late Lester and Ocie Gandee Steele. She was a 1945 graduate of Walton High School and attended West Virginia University. She was a legal secretary for attorneys in Roane and Wood counties. She was also an attaché in the House of Delegates, recording secretary for the Young Republican Club, president of the Forsythia Garden Club, recording secretary of the Pettyville Garden Club and was an accredited flower show judge in Wood County.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda Jean Todd of Coolville, Ohio, Mary Joellen Morris of Toledo, Ohio, and Susan Brooks Grant of Columbia, Tenn.; one son, E.C. “Skip” of Walker; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother; one sister; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
Service was Monday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Elder Warren Walker officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Dorsel Earl Smith

Dorsel Earl Smith, 77, of Clifton, Texas, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at home.
He was born at Walton.
He is survived by his wife, Floyce Gean; four children, Chereta Evans and Gwen Halsell, both of Clifton, Ronald of Cranfills Gap, Texas, and Alan of Aidlengen, Germany; four stepchildren, Debra Culp and Linda Ogle, both of Cranfills Gap, and Mark and Ben Culp, both of Clifton; one sister, Mecie McChristian of Laneville, Texas; and 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Service was Friday, Feb. 15 at Fundamental Baptist Church, Clifton, with Brother George Watson and Brother Johnny Paulson officiating. Burial was in Clifton Memorial Park, Clifton.

Lionel Leon ‘Lon’ Smith

Lionel Leon “Lon” Smith, 94, of Point Pleasant, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008 at St. Mary’s Medical Center from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane A. Goodwin Smith.
Graveside service was Sunday at Smith Family Cemetery, Uler, with Rev. Richard DeQuasie officiating. Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, was in charge of arrangements.

Rebecca L. Walker

Rebecca L. Walker, 47, of Phillippi, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008 at Davis Memorial Hospital, Elkins, following an extended illness.
She was born at Phillippi, a daughter of the late Louis N. and Margaret Jean Robinson Ward. She was a 1978 graduate of Philip Barbour High School and a graduate of the West Virginia Career College, Morgantown. She was employed as the secretary for the Phillippi Detachment of the West Virginia State Police and had worked 25 years as a billing clerk in the Utilities Department of the City of Phillippi. She attended Phillippi Baptist Church and was a member of Just For Fun Community Band. She was a supporter of Cub Scout Pack 63 and the Philip Barbour High School Band and Band Boosters.
She is survived by her husband, William Lloyd “Bill” Walker, formerly of Spencer; three sons, William Andrew of Huntington, Alexander Nathaniel and Aaron John “A.J.”; and two brothers, Jesse L. Ward of Phillippi and Louis “Eugene” Ward of Elkins.
The body was cremated. Service was Sunday at Phillippi Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Steel officiating. Stemple & Forman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to the Philip Barbour High School Band, c/o Lilah Phillips – Treasurer, 301 Shenandoah Lane, Phillippi WV 26416.

Leola Frances Webb

Leola Frances Allen Webb, 81, of Salem, Ohio, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 at Salem Community ER.
She was born in Spencer, a daughter of the late William E. and Eulah Carpenter Allen. She worked for Webb’s Automotive and ran a deer check station. She was a member of Mt. Nebo Grange and Hanover Church of Christ.
She is survived by four children, Arless D. of Columbiana, Ohio, Fred of Salem, William of Salem and Connie J. Petty of Lisbon, Ohio; one stepson, Delmar Rhodes of Gay; one sister, Ella Haas of Massillion, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hume Webb; two brothers, Arthur and Everett; and one grandson.
Service was Monday at Banner Church with Rick Tincher officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
