Ruby Jarvis May
Ruby Jarvis May, 93, of Spencer, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 at Miletree Center after a long illness.
She was born at Stinson, a daughter of the late Nelson and Lora Hicks Jarvis. She was a caregiver to the sick and elderly.
She is survived by one sister, Eva Parsons of Spencer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James May; one infant son; three sisters, Mae Moss, Violet Smith and Myrtle Lauber; and three brothers, Harry, Cecil and Ernest.
Service is 1 p.m. today (Thursday) at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Fletcher officiating. Burial will be in Lamb Cemetery, Stinson. Visitation is two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
Kenneth B. Sampson
Kenneth B. Sampson, 57, of Arnoldsburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008 at Arbors of Marietta, Ohio, following an extended illness.
He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Oral G. and Ruby Dillon Sampson. He was a Marine Corps veteran and member of Victory Baptist Church, Grantsville. He was a member of the 4-H Bigfoot tribe and taught classes for the Lights On program. He was a funeral director’s assistant at Stump Funeral Home.
He is survived by one daughter, Anna Marie Sampson of Millstone; two brothers, Willard of St. Marys and Otis of Clayton, N.C.; two sisters, Ellen Coen of Barberton, Ohio, and Mary L. West of Arnoldsburg.
Service was Saturday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Mike Worf officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Grantsville.
James O. Stalnaker
James O. Stalnaker, 93, of Leachtown, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Parkersburg, after a brief illness.
He was born at Orma, a son of the late Clark and Nora Hughes Stalnaker. He was an army veteran, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was a cattle farmer and member of Boggs Fork Community Church and the W.Va. Farm Bureau.
He is survived by one son, Mike; four sisters, Brunna Penman of Mesa, Ariz., Juanita Shorb of Pinetop, Ariz., Emma Deel of Minnora and Naomi Simms of Waterloo, S.C.; and three grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell Luzader Stalnaker; four brothers, Fenton, Eucal, Euall and Bee; and one sister, Eupha Jones.
Service is 1 p.m. Saturday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial will be in Orma UMC Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Dora Ward
Dora Ward, 96, of Spencer, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at Golden Times Care Home, Reedy, after a long illness.
She was born at Clover, a daughter of the late Darl D. and Mary Kincaid Pritchard. She was a retired teacher and a basketball standout at Spencer High School. She was a member of Reedy Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Owen of Spencer; one son, Jim of Spencer; and six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Alonzo Ward.
Service was Wednesday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Leisure officiating. Burial was in Ward Cemetery.
