Dorsie Belle Barnhouse
Dorsie Belle Barnhouse, 92, of Spencer, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008 at Roane General Hospital.
She was born in Roane County, a daughter of the late George and Maggie Laughlin Schreckengost. She was a former Kellwood employee and a homemaker. She was a member of Otto Advent Christian Church and Keffer United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Hellen Batten of Spencer; one sister, Dorothy Hall of Spencer; and seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Barnhouse; two sons, Donald and George; four brothers, Warren, Lewis, Clifford and William; and two sisters, Faye Wilson and Opal Hall.
Service was Saturday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Strickland and Rev. Danny Whited officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.
‘Jimmy George’ Bateman
James “Jimmy George” Bateman, 82, of Boone County, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008.
He was born in Raleigh County, a son of the late Okey and Delia Pettry Bateman. He was an army veteran, coal miner and laborer.
He is survived by his companion, Barbara Duty; two sons, Dempsey of Parker, Pa., and Earl of Spencer; five daughters, Patty Carper of Speed and Roberta Bateman, Lisa Nichols, Phyllis Kiser and Brenda Bateman, all of Spencer; one brother, Raymond of Muncie, Ind.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry and James; one brother, Cecil; and one sister, Louise Fernatt.
Service was Tuesday at Stevens Funeral Home, Madison, with Harley Hill and Jackie Roberts officiating. Burial was in Drawdy Cemetery, Peytona, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 5578.
Tommy Dean Burdette
Tommy Dean Burdette, 69, of Barberton, Ohio, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008 after a short illness.
He was born in Spencer, a son of the late Charles Jack and Rosa Burdette. He worked for Barefoot Sole, Wadsworth, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Burdette; and one sister, Jacqueline Russell of Spencer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Mae; and two brothers, Roy Ray and Clyde Earl.
The body was cremated. Burial will be later in Hodam Cemetery, Reedy. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home submitted this information.
Beulah G. Conley
Beulah G. Conley, 95, of Ripley, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008 at Eldercare, Ripley, following a short illness.
She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late John and Hattie Gillian Smith. She was an office manager for Hardman’s Home Center and a member of Reedy United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, Les W. of Elria, Ohio; two daughters, Eleanor Rae Mills of Leroy and Barbara Conley of Ripley; and seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray R. Conley; an infant son, John W.; two brothers, Milo M. and Paul H.; and one sister, Olive C. Coon.
The body was cremated. Vail Funeral Home, Ripley, was in charge of arrangements.

Norma Jean Cottrill
Norma Jean Schoolcraft Norman Cottrill, 77, of New Bern, N.C., died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 from an upper respiratory illness.
She was born at Sand Ridge, a daughter of the late Harley and Louise Ross Schoolcraft.
She is survived by three sons, Donzel of New Bern, Harley of Lynchburg, Va., and Vernon of Creston; one daughter, Norma Mowrey of Arnoldsburg; three brothers, Gordon of Orma, Leon of Elyria and Raymond of Grantsville; one sister, Lou Boggs of McCellandtown, Pa.; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one husband, Donzel “Dude” Norman; one brother, John; and one sister, Nina Groves.
The body was cremated. Private burial will be later in Metz Cemetery, Sand Ridge.
Ronnie J. Miller
Ronnie J. Miller, 61, of Spencer, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008 at Roane General Hospital.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Russell Remus and Sadie Belle Carpenter Miller. He was retired from the Spencer sanitary board and street department. He was a member of Spencer-Roane Volunteer Fire Department, Roane Emergency Squad and Walnut Grove Community Church.
He is survived by his wife, Angie Hall Miller; three stepchildren, Joshua Hall and Phillip and Sarah Stephens; three sisters, Connie Whited of Hartville, Ohio, and Jean Baum and Virginia Ruth Casto, both of Spencer; and three brothers, Sam and Tim, both of Spencer, and Chuck of Reedy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Levi.
Service was Wednesday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Jackie Roberts officiating. Burial was in Bowers Cemetery.

Wyatt Bruce Moore
Wyatt Bruce Moore, 83, of Supply, N.C., died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 at home.
He was born in Spencer, a son of the late Samuel Wyatt and Fannie Spencer Moore.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eunice; one son, David Bruce of Arizona; one daughter Donna of Wilmington, N.C.; one brother, James of Texas; and one grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Bontz; and one sister Nelda Giles.
Service was Saturday at Sabbath Home Baptist Church, Holden Beach, N.C. Coble Ward-Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, Supply Chapel, N.C., was in charge of arrangements.

Melvin R. Siers
Melvin R. Siers, 64, of Rosedale, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2007 at home.
He was a son of the late Earl and Hallie Sampson Siers.
He is survived by one brother, Pete of Rosedale; and one sister, Pearl Wildman of Jacksonville, Fla.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Marion Everette, Walter Lee and Robert Lee; and one sister, Myrl Kaye.
Service was Friday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in Cottrell Cemetery, Frozen Run.
Edna Woodward
Edna Woodward, 79, of Akron, Ohio, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008.
She was born in Spencer, a daughter of the late George and Ila Church. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by four children, Sandra Smith, Sherry Cruse, Sheena Webb and Jim Woodward; two brothers, Jess and George; two sisters, Evelyn Church and Shirley Davis; and 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; one son, Jess; and two brothers, one sister and one great-grandson.
Service was Wednesday at Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home, Akron.
