Violet Frances Barger

Violet Frances Barger, 87, of Lowell, Ohio, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Spencer, a daughter of the late John Brown and Artie Mechia Short Greathouse. She worked as a welder at B&W, Barberton, Ohio, during World War II. She attended the Marietta Bible Center. She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Lowell, and was a 50-year member.
She is survived by one son, Larry E. of Marietta, Ohio; two daughters, Patricia L. Ryder of Marietta and Sandra K. Leasure of Circleville, Ohio; and one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Barger; seven sisters, Odiaus and Ora Greathouse, Ocie Simmons, Lena Haverty, Opal and Elsie Shreve and Floda Spencer; and one brother, John Greathouse.
Service was Sunday at Lowell Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery. Eastern Star services took place Saturday. Online condolences may be left at cawleyandpeoples.com.

Mary J. Camden

Mary J. Camden, 66, of Akron, Ohio, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008.
She was born in Grantsville, a daughter of the late Mansel and Hazel Starcher Hughes. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by three children, Hazel Perle, James Bennett and Betty Stecyk, all of Akron; two sisters, Carolyn Miller and Shirley Naylor, both of Millstone; one brother, Lonnie Hughes of Spencer; and seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Bennett; one son, Roger; and one daughter, Patricia.
Service was Monday at Hur Church with Rev. Carl Marks officiating. Burial was in Hur Cemetery. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

David ‘Mike’ Faulkiner

David Michael “Mike” Faulkiner, 60, of Russell, Kan., died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 at Hays Regional Medical Center from pancreatic cancer.
He was born in Glen Dale, a son of Dorothy Faulkiner Evans and the late Howard Faulkiner. He was a graduate of Cameron High School and attended West Virginia Tech. He was a teacher and coach for Riverside Military Academy, Gainesville, Ga., and Walton High School. He then worked as a coach and a scout for the NFL, earning a 1994 Super Bowl ring while scouting for the San Francisco 49ers.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Laura; two sisters, Diane Hicks of Cameron and Dedrie Faulkiner of Cincinnati; and two brothers, Daniel of Cameron and Andrew Evans of Kearneysville.
The body was cremated. A family service took place Friday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, Russell.

Wanda Jean Harler

Wanda Jean Harler, 70, of Stow, Ohio, formerly of Uler, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at Stow Glen Health Center, Stow.
She was born at Newton, a daughter of the late Kenneth Thomas and Elva Ethel Drake Smith. She was a retired secretary for Montgomery Ward, Charleston. She was a 1955 graduate of Spencer High School and member of Uler Memorial Church.
She is survived by two sisters, Eloise F. Estep Everly of Stow and Merle L. King of Tallmadge, Ohio; and one brother, Thomas K. Smith of Spencer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Grover Harler.
Service was Monday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. John B. Smith officiating. Burial was in Smith Cemetery, Uler.

Elizabeth Ruth Lowther

Elizabeth Ruth Litton Lowther, 83, of Vienna, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008 at Eagle Pointe, Parkersburg, after an extended illness.
She was born in Roane County, a daughter of the late Virgil Perry and Hattie Drake Litton. She was a homemaker and attended Faith Baptist Church, Vienna.
She is survived by her husband, William I. Lowther of Vienna; one daughter, Linda Sue Reed Dotson of Parkersburg; one son, Jeffery Lowther of Illinois; two sisters, Hazeldene Furr of Cleveland, and Arlene Wilson of Texas; one brother, James Willard Litton of Parkersburg; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Roger Reed, Dean Reed and William Robert Lowther.
Service was Sunday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Yoak officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Gay.

Nellie D. Nicholas

Nellie D. Nicholas, 85, of Rosedale, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008 at home.
She was born in Gilmer County, a daughter of the late Oscar and Eva Barton Dobbins. She worked as a log truck driver and was a member of Rosedale Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Orval Nicholas; four daughters, Eileen Norman of Gandeeville, Elaine Cooke and Janice Haines, both of Ravenna, Ohio, and Paulette Chenoweth of Kearny, Ariz.; two sons, David of Weston and Darrell of Rosedale; two sisters, Rachael Summers of Sebring, Fla., and Ermal Smith of Ravenna; one brother, Ernest Dobbins of Garrettsville, Ohio; and 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and one great-grandchild.
Service was Monday at Rosedale Baptist Church with Elder Larry Fisher officiating. Burial was in Rosedale Cemetery. Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Faith Ann Shealy

Faith Ann Shealy, 43, of Spencer, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008 at Roane General Hospital.
She was born in Newfane, N.Y., a daughter of Audrey M. Guy of Iron Station, N.C., and the late William Henderson Guy. She worked as a hotel manager.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur Ricky Edwards of Claremont, N.C.; and four sisters, Margaret M. Batten of Spencer, Billie G. Prather of Charleston, Sherry L. Clark of LuGoff, S.C., and Kimberly A. Guy of Dallas, N.C.
Service was Friday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Charles L. Davis officiating. The body was cremated.
