Virgie H. Boggs

Virgie H. Boggs, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008 at Westbrooke Manor Nursing Home, Zephyrhills, Fla.
She was born in Reedy, a daughter of the late Oliver and Verna Boggs. She was a graduate of Spencer High School. She retired after working 33 years for Bendix Corp.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Garcie and Garnett Boggs; and four sisters Orpha Snyder, Anna Williams, Orlie Atkinson and Thelma Boyle.
Service was Saturday at Chapel Hill Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Dade City, Fla. Hodges Family Funeral Home, Dade City, was in charge of arrangements.

Bobby Allen Casto

Bobby Allen Casto, 57, of Spencer, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008 at home after an extended illness.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Haymond and Frances Waldeck Casto. He was a welder and member of Church of the Living God. He was a navy veteran.
He is survived by four sisters, Jane Wilson and Brenda Joseph, both of Ravenna, Ohio, and Donna Martin and Connie Moles, both of Spencer; and two brothers, Marion of Chesapeake, Ohio, and Danny of Mogadore, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Lee Parfitt; and one brother, Larry.
Service was Thursday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Pastor Clarence McKown officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.

Bessie Gladys Hunt

Bessie Gladys Hunt, 92, of Spencer, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008 at Roane General Hospital after an extended illness.
She was born in Spencer, a daughter of the late Orville Curtis and Levena Kirby Reynolds. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by one son, Olen E. Gandee Jr. of Spencer; one brother, Cleo T. Reynolds of Elizabeth; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Brooks Jarrett Hunt; and four brothers, Roy, Harold, Chester and Cecil Reynolds.
The body was cremated. Burial will be later in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Walton. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Quellen M. Keith

Quellen McGuire Keith, 87, of Columbia, S.C., formerly of Spencer, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 at C.M. Tucker Center, Columbia, following an extended illness.
He was born in Spencer, a son of the late Russell T. and Edna McGuire Keith. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture – Farmers Home Administration for over 40 years. He served two terms on the Roane County Commission, from 1988-2000. He was a graduate of Spencer High School, a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and earned an M.S. in Agriculture from West Virginia University. He was a World War II veteran, served in England in the Army Air Corps and played trombone for a military dance band. He also played trombone with the Top Hatters dance band. He was a member of Spencer Rotary Club, Moriah Lodge No. 38 AF&AM, American Legion Post 21, Roane County Chamber of Commerce and was secretary for many years of W.Va. Hereford Breeders Association. He was also a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Spencer. He was an Eagle Scout and attended World Jamboree in England.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Johnnie Mae Keith of Columbia; two sons, Jon Girard and Thomas Christopher, both of Columbia; two brothers, John E. of Spartanburg, S.C., and Russell T. Jr. of Charleston; and four grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Spencer with Rev. Michael F. “Mike” King officiating. Burial with military graveside rites performed by several Roane County veteran groups will be in Eventide Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Edward M. Vineyard

Edward M. Vineyard, 69, of Spencer, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 at home.
He was born in Spencer, a son of the late Guy and Gladys Vineyard. He was the band director at Spencer High School, taught at Glenville State College and retired from Roane County High School as choir director in 1998. He also taught piano and guitar to many local students.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Diane Vineyard; two daughters, Erica Moore and Heather Vineyard; two step-children, Janie Thabet Collins and Scott Thabet; one sister, Elizabeth Vineyard; and three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two twin brothers, Roger Dale and Stephen Clark.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spencer Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the funeral home two hours prior to the service.

Robert M. ‘Bob’ Whited

Robert M. “Bob” Whited, 75, of Spencer, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008 at Roane General Hospital after a long illness.
He was born at Walton, a son of the late Lon Whited and Reba Whited Bird. He retired from Citrus Olds & Pontiac, Ilomosassa, Fla. He was a member of the Baptist Class of Walton Union Church, Walton Masonic Lodge #150 AF&AM and American Legion Post 21. He was an army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Violet; three brothers, David of Parkersburg, Fred of Buckhannon and Jerry of North Carolina; four sisters, Nancy Cox of Maryland, Mary Schrader of North Carolina, Elaine Dawson of Procious and Martha Abbott of Parkersburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Christy Bird; four brothers, Gene, Charles, Don and Bill; and two sisters, Eloise and Barbara.
Service is 1 p.m. today (Thursday) at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Board and Rev. Jerry Malona officiating. Burial will be in Rocky Branch Cemetery, Walton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Debra Jean Wolfe

Debra Jean Wolfe, 53, of Walton, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008 at home.
She was born in Gandeeville, a daughter of Ruth Nichols of Spencer and the late Denzil Mace. She was a respiratory therapist for over 20 years.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Mace; five children, James and Jennifer Bissell, both of Spencer, Steven and Casandra Bissell, both of Walton, and Nathan Bissell of Procious; five siblings, Jerry Mace of Gandeeville, Daniel Mace of Ripley, David Holcomb of California, Wayne Holcomb of Floyd, Va., Sharon McCortney of Akron, Ohio, and Denzil Mace Jr. of Spencer; and nine grandchildren.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Henry Nichols; one brother, Kenneth Holcomb; and three sisters, Carolyn and Betty Mace and Winnie Faye Vandale.
Service was Sunday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Shaffer officiating. Burial will be later.
