Juanita Lee Anderson

Juanita Lee Anderson, 81, of Reedy, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007 at Miletree Center.
She was born in Roane County, a daughter of the late Basil and Lula Roberts Wilson. She was a former Roane County Democratic Committeewoman from Reedy District and a member of Reedy Senior Citizens and Reedy Methodist Church.
She is survived by four sons, Kenneth of Spencer, Michael of Reedy and Ray and David, both of Ripley; one daughter, Jesse Justice of Spencer; two brothers, Bob and Darrell Wilson, both of Spencer; two sisters, Eloise Miller of Spencer and Marie Hall of Winfield; and 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul O. Anderson; one son, Grover C. Anderson; and four brothers, Kenneth, Dean, Jack and Fred Wilson.
Service was Saturday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Walton officiating. Burial was in Eventide Cemetery.

Carl J. ‘Red’ Blosser

Carl J. “Red” Blosser, 64, of Spencer, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at home.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Raymond and Flossie Blosser. He worked at a sawmill and at Monarch Rubber Company.
He is survived by his wife, Tressie Price Blosser; his stepfather, Joe Wilson of Spencer; five daughters, Roberta Price, Dorothy Ryan, Ruth Ann Jarvis, Marilyn Blosser and Ruby Jane Benear; three sons, Randall Price, Charles Price and Carl Junior Blosser; three sisters, Dottie Boggs, Gatha Greathouse and Caroline Hickman; one brother, Joe J. Wilson; and 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four children, Carl Patrick Blosser, Carolyn Blosser, Robert Price and Wilbur Price; one brother, Dorsie Blosser; and two grandchildren.
Service was Wednesday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Darrell Alvis officiating. Burial was in Smith Cemetery.

Kenneth B. Cavender

Kenneth Bryant Cavender, 43, of Spencer, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at home from cancer.
He was born in Lake County, Ohio, a son of Linda Louise Dolan Cavender Weirsteiner of Seth and the late Jackie Lee Cavender. He was vice president of the Classic Steel Car Club and a former shop foreman for Roy G. Hildreth & Son Inc.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 24 years, Donnia K. Estep Cavender of Spencer; one daughter, Heather Metheney of Spencer; one son, Kenneth Cavender II of Clarksville, Tenn.; his stepfather, Carl Weirsteiner of Seth; one brother, Kevin Cavender of Seth; two sisters, Kathy Simpson of St. Albans and Kimberly McCormick of Racine.
Service is 7 p.m. today (Thursday) at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Ora Holbert officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Vada Reip Davis

Vada Reip Davis, 91, of Espyville, Pa., died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2007 at home.
She was born at Orma, a daughter of the late Curt and Lucy Tucker Parsons. She was a former caregiver and member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Dalton Reip Jr. of Minnora; one daughter, Emma Jean Conley of Espyville; one brother, Everett Parsons of Elizabeth; and 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Dalton Reip Sr. and Dale Davis; one son, Robert Blaine Reip; one daughter, Delores Jewell Hersman; and 12 siblings.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial will be in Reip Cemetery, Orma. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today (Thursday) at the funeral home.

Alva Lee Hamric

Alva Lee Hamric, 73, of Athens, Ga., died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007.
He was born in Spencer, a son of the late Alvie L. and Virgie Hamrick. He was a graduate of Spencer High School.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie June Williams Hamric; one son, Jimmy Hamric; one daughter, Charlotte Lynn; and one sister, Eloise Burgess.
Service was Friday at Westmeade Baptist Church, Athens, with Rev. Scotty Hogan officiating. Burial was in Limestone Memorial Gardens, Athens.

Leah Nicole Hickman

Leah Nicole Hickman, 21, of Huntington, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007.
She was born in Point Pleasant, a daughter of Ronald L. Hickman of Point Pleasant and Sherry J. Sole Russell of Leon. She attended Marshall University and was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Point Pleasant.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her stepfather, Brian Russell of Leon; one sister, Jessie J. Vickers of Huntington; and three stepbrothers, Ryan Russell of West Columbia and Nicholas Russell and Joshua Russell, both of Leon.
Service was Saturday at the National Guard Armory, Point Pleasant, with Pastor Jamie Watts, Rev. Matthew Dotson, Rev. Lewis Villers and Rev. Shannon Skeen officiating. Burial took place Sunday. Deal Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, was in charge of arrangements.

James Edgell Miller

James Edgell Miller, 93, of Williamsport, Md., died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 at Williamsport Nursing Home.
He was born in Spencer, a son of the late Jeff Rae and Amma Miller. He worked for Texas Refinery Corporation and retired from the army as a colonel.
He is survived by three sons, Jeff Rae of Keyser, Dean of Charles Town and Tim of Clear Brook, Va.; one sister, Julia Miller of Hagerstown, Md.; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Emma Miller; two wives, Gladys M. Miller and Virginia Davis Miller; and two sisters, Jean Headlee and June Griggs.
Service is 3 p.m. Friday at Minnich Funeral Home, Hagerstown, with Chaplain Josephine Benton officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Memorial Cemetery. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Jeffrey Wayne Nichols

Jeffrey Wayne Nichols, 38, of Parkersburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007.
He was born in Stuart, Fla., a son of Ernie R. and Linda K. Hackney Nichols of Walton. He was the former manager of McCoy’s Best Western, Ripley, and was a 1988 graduate of Ravenswood High School.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Virginia O’Dell Nichols of Leroy; two sons, Justin of Leroy and Christopher of Panama City, Fla.; and three brothers, John, Teddy and Ernie Jr., all of Ravenswood.
Service was Friday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Gary DiToto officiating. Burial was in Shaffer Cemetery, Walton.

Robert ‘Jack’ Owens

Robert L. “Jack” Owens, 59, of Spencer, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007 at CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston.
He was born in North Carolina, a son of the late Dan L. and Virginia G. Adams Owens.
He is survived by his wife, Lola L. Owens; one daughter, Gloria E. Turner of Spencer; two stepdaughters, Shirley J. Matz of Summerfield, Fla., and Nancy E. Wise of Oswego, N.Y.; two stepsons, Ronald C. Bias and Thomas E. Bias, both of Spencer; one sister, Mary Sue Lovejoy of Powelton; and one brother, James D. Owens of Anthony, Fla.
Service was Saturday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.

Jane A. Reed

Jane A. Reed, 82, of Amma, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after a short illness.
She was born in Salem, a daughter of the late Homer and Freda Randolph Holbert. She attended Salem College and received her bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University. She was a teacher in Michigan, Delaware and Virginia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Reed; and one grandson.
She is survived by one son, Patrick Reed of Porter Ranch, Calif.; one daughter, Kate Whitteker of Amma; one sister, Margaret Lawson of Morgantown; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The body was donated to WVU School of Medicine. A service will take place next spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the We Care Club, c/o Jerry Stover, Clay County High School, 1 Panther Drive, Clay WV 25043.
