James Lakin Conley

James Lakin Conley, 83, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2007 at Ravenswood Village.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Ord and Ethel Gandee Conley. He was a retired mill operator for Kaiser Aluminum and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
He is survived by one daughter, Gloria Steiner of Fairmont; two sons, Patrick of Sonora, Calif., and Timothy of Atlanta; and one granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, James Lakin II; seven brothers; and two sisters.
Graveside service was Monday at Mt. Zion Cemetery with Rev. Bob Keen officiating. Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth G. Kendall

Ruth Greathouse Kendall, 74, of Spencer, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2007 at Roane General Hospital after a long illness.
She was the daughter of the late Jesse Greathouse and Roxie Roberts Greathouse Monroe and stepdaughter of the late Alfred Monroe.
She was a former employee of Staats and Hughes drug stores and was a member of Alexander Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Jarvis of Milton, Barbara Ellis of Spencer and Lea Ann Shaffer of Seven Valleys, Pa.; one son, Terry Kendall of Spencer; three sisters, Patsy Merrill and Rose Ruble, both of Newark, and Mary Nicholas of Brohard; and 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Kendall; two sisters, Alice Davis and Dora Jean Gick; one brother, Harold Monroe; and one grandson.
Service was Monday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Strickland and Rev. Jackie Roberts officiating. Burial was in Hodam Cemetery.

Bobby Q. Morehead

Bobby Q. Morehead, 68, of Brimfield, Ohio, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007 from cancer.
He was born in Spencer, a son of the late Robert and Velva Morehead. He was retired from Don Wartko Construction.
He is survived by his wife, Kay; two sons, Gilbert of Mogadore, Ohio, and Jeffery of Syracuse, N.Y.; two brothers, Frank of Randolph, Ohio, and Raymond of Tallmadge, Ohio; three sisters, Emogene and Francis of Spencer and Eloise of Cottageville; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Deat and John; and one sister, Justine.
The body was cremated. Service was at Newcomer Funeral Home, Akron, Ohio, with Pastor Bob Fleming officiating.

Gracie Evelyn Nichols

Gracie Evelyn Nichols, 95, of Ripley, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007 at Arbors, Gallipolis, Ohio.
She was born in Roane County, a daughter of the late Harry and Catherine Greathouse Spencer. She was a homemaker and member of Hebron United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Arthur E. Nichols of Ripley and Dewey Nichols of St. Albans; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur B. Nichols.
Service is 1 p.m. today (Thursday) at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Davis officiating. Burial will be in Hebron Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Gordon Rogers

Gordon Rogers, 82, of Orma, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, in Spencer.
He was born in Ridgefield Park, N.J., a son of the late Chester Newton and Renee Myers Rogers. He was the retired president and co-owner of Star Communications, Inc. dba WVRC 104.7 FM. He was a graduate of Rutgers University, an army veteran of World War II and a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Charleston.
He is survived by one daughter, Diane I. Zdanek of Spencer; two sons, Jeffrey G. Rogers of Hagerstown, Md., and Bruce H. Rogers of Waldwick, N.J.; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jane Buck Rogers.
The body was cremated and a service will take place later. John H. Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Church of Christ Scientist, P.O. Box 664, Charleston WV 25323-0664.
