Hoyt Ray Dye
Hoyt Ray Dye, 62, of Looneyville, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2007 at CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston.
He was born in Kanawha County, a son of the late William Gay and Beulah Frances Armstead Dye. He was a heavy equipment operator and member of Operating Engineers Local. He was an army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Cruikshanks Dye; one daughter, Michelle Dye of Apple Grove; one son, Stephen of Hurricane; one sister, Glendene Ray of Clinton, Ohio; and two brothers, Bobby of Akron, Ohio, and Keith of Barberton, Ohio.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Truman officiating. Burial will be in Dye Family Cemetery with military graveside rites performed by local veterans groups. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today (Thursday) at the funeral home.
Violet O. Harper
Violet O. Harper, 97, of Gandeeville, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007 at home.
She was born at Mattie, a daughter of the late William H. Coleman and Louella Mae Hunt Jarvis Short. She was a former employee of Roane County Community Action and a salesperson for Kyle Furniture, Charleston.
She is survived by three sons, Jack of Baltimore, Ohio, Bill of Charleston and Teddy of Gandeeville; two daughters, Betty Mason of Frankford and Kathy Springston of Martinsburg; caregiver David Pettry of Gandeeville; and 23 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oral Harper; one son, Bob; and two daughters, JoAnn Goff and Deane Bowles.
Service was Monday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Robert Hargus officiating. Burial was in Harper-Hunt Cemetery, Gandeeville.
Charles R. Jarvis
Charles R. Jarvis, 87, of Mansfield, Ohio, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007 at home.
He was born at Oka, a son of the late Floyd and Nancy McLaughlin Jarvis. He retired from Westinghouse. He was also the co-owner of Merl’s Pizza and a self-employed contractor.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Merl Tiller Jarvis; three daughters, Regina Scott of Marietta, Ohio, Nola Ash of Mansfield and Christine Brock of Columbus, Ohio; one son, Bobby R. Jarvis of West Virginia; one brother, Fred Truman of Mansfield; one sister, Gay Murphy of Marietta; one grandson he raised as a son, Jason T. Jarvis; and 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Randal Jarvis; and two brothers and three sisters.
Service was Monday at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Mansfield, with Pastor Doug Tackett officiating. Burial was in Springmill Cemetery, Mansfield.

Eddie T. Lowe
Eddie T. Lowe Sr., 63, of Ashville, Ohio, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
He was born at Walton, a son of the late Roy Sr. and Mamie Moore Lowe. He was a retired plumbing inspector for the Franklin County Board of Health. He was a member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Union Local 189 of Columbus and an army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Jean Ramey; two daughters, Sherry Lowe of Columbus and Terry Wilgus of Las Vegas; one son, Eddie of Burlington, Iowa; two brothers, Roy Jr. of So. Bloomfield, Ohio, and Freddie of Mt. Sterling, Ohio; three sisters, Faye Dusenberry of Newark, Ohio, Gaye Pickrell of Micco, Fla., and Doris Murray of Columbus; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Wilma Nunamaker.
Service was Wednesday at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, Ashville, with Pastor Greg Cooper officiating. Burial was in Muhlenberg Township Cemetery, Darbyville, Ohio.
Barbara A. Nichols
Barbara A. Nichols, 49, of Linden, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007 at home after an extended illness.
She was born in Kanawha County, a daughter of Eleanor Corn Ramsey of Newton and the late Edward Ramsey. She was an LPN and was employed by Capitol City Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and member of Hays Fork Church, Linden.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, David J. Nichols; one daughter, Amy Nichols of Spencer; two sons, David Nichols of Newton and James Nichols of Linden; three sisters, Ruth Fowler of North Carolina, Terry Starcher of Newton and Tina Ferrebee of Wallback; two brothers, Lee Ramsey of Kentucky and Tom Ramsey of Newton; and eight grandchildren.
Service was Wednesday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Pastor John Putnam officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.
Philip E. Reynolds
Philip E. Reynolds, 56, of Spencer, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at home.
He was born in Port Arthur, Texas, a son of Barbara “Bobbie” Bennett Reynolds Brown of Harlingen, Texas, and the late Vincent Oscar Reynolds. He retired after 30 years of teaching at Spencer Elementary School, the former Spencer High School and Roane County High School. He had been chosen Roane County Teacher of the Year. He was a graduate of Glenville State College and a member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He was a former Boy Scout leader and an active member of the Roane Arts and Humanities Council. He attended Memorial United Methodist Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Carmen Miller Reynolds; one daughter, Lisa D. Smith of Williamstown; one son, Craig P. Edwards of Tampa, Fla.; one brother, Timothy Vincent Reynolds of Georgetown, Texas; stepfather, Edd Brown of Harlingen; and three grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Heilman officiating. Burial will be in Eventide Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today (Thursday) at the funeral home.

Stephen Wayne Short
Stephen Wayne Short, 61, of Spencer, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007 at CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston, after an extended illness. He was born in Spencer, a son of the late Roma Lee and Catheryn Steele Short Jr. He retired as a school bus driver after 13 years. He also worked at Norris Industries and Babcock & Wilcox, Ohio. He was a member of the Oddfellows and a member of the National Guard from 1968-72. He was a lifelong member of Boggs Fork Community Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Mary Catheryn “Cathy” Kemp of Massilon, Ohio; two sons, Stephen Wayne II and Christopher, both of Spencer; one sister, Janet Lee Roberts of Spencer; one brother, Roma Lee “Romie” Short III of Spencer; and four grandchildren.
Service is at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Davis officiating. Burial will be in Short Cemetery.
Troy D. Tabor
Troy D. Tabor, 45, of Newton, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007 at CAMC General Hospital, Charleston.
He was born in Charleston, a son of the late Edwin and Phyllis Parsons Tabor. He was a member of the GPAA and was a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Sigmon Tabor; one son, Max Runion of Newton; two brothers, Edwin Tabor of Charleston and Tom Tabor of Nashville, Tenn.; and one granddaughter.
The body was cremated. Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, was in charge of arrangements.

Gracie Marie Walker
Gracie Marie Walker died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007.
She was the daughter of Charles David Walker and Elizabeth Donna Koons of Spencer.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her paternal grandparents, Charles and Kimberly Parsons of Spencer; and maternal grandparents, Bob and Judy Koons of Pennsylvania.
Service was Saturday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Charles L. Davis officiating.
