Kenneth Glenn Boggs
Kenneth Glenn Boggs, 44, of Spencer, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010 at his home.
He was born at Looneyville, a son of Dottie Blosser Boggs of Left Hand and the late Virgil Boggs. He helped his brothers with their lawn mowing and weed trimming business during summer. His interests included hunting and fishing.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Virgil Starcher of Colorado and Travis Conley of Clendenin; two brothers, Eddie and Art Boggs, both of Left Hand; his grandfather, Joe Wilson of Spencer; several aunts, uncles, great-aunts and great-uncles.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Franklin Boggs.
Service was Sunday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, with Rev. Richard Webb officiating. Burial was in Epling Chapel Cemetery, Looneyville.
Mary McIntosh Davis
Mary McIntosh Davis, 78, of Morgantown, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010.
She was born in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Frederick F. Jr. and Johnnie Mae O’Brien McIntosh of Spencer.
After graduating from Penn Hall Preparatory School in 1949, she attended West Virginia University, where she was a member of Chi Omega social sorority. She received an A.B. degree in English and education in 1953. She then taught elementary school in West Palm Beach, Fla., for one year before entering the Arts Students League in New York, N.Y., where she studied under print maker, Will Barnett. While living in New York, she married Lloyd Davis of Charleston and began teaching at California Avenue Elementary in Hempstead, N.Y.
After moving to Morgantown in 1959 she was active in the League of Women Voters and she opened an art gallery on Pleasant Street. She began teaching kindergarten at Wesley United Methodist Church in 1967. When kindergarten became part of the public school curriculum, she taught at Central Elementary School.
While at Central, she taught international students, which led to her decision to pursue a Fulbright Teaching Exchange. In 1980, she was the first teacher from the Monongalia County school system to be awarded a Fulbright. The Fulbright took her to Scotland in 1980, where she served as the teaching principal of Slammanan Nursery School in the Central Region.
During her long career, she shared her expertise in early childhood education by mentoring student teachers from WVU, traveling to various conferences to speak, publishing articles and becoming part of the People to People Educator’s delegation to Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1996. She retired in 2001 from Mountain View Elementary.
Throughout her professional life, she was an advocate for young children, for which she received many honors and awards including being inducted into the Association of Childhood Education International Hall of Excellence in 1992, the West Virginia Association for Young Children Outstanding Member in 1997, and in 2005 she was named one of Morgantown’s 100 most influential people.
Following her retirement, she continued to devote time and resources to projects geared toward young children such as the development of The Morgantown Fun Factory, where she served on the board of directors and was a volunteer until her health declined.
She is survived by three children, David Davis of Morgantown, Owen Davis of Frederick, Md., and Jessica Owens of Hurst, Texas; her brother, Frederick F. McIntosh III of Old Tappan, N.J.; and four grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Diane McIntosh Peyton of Wheeling.

Joseph Payne
Joseph Payne, 77, of Walton, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010 at his home.
He was born at Advent in Jackson County, a son of the late Hurley and Nancy Gae Davis Payne. He was a retired carpenter and bridge builder for Orders Construction, St. Albans, and a member of the United Steelworkers, Local 14614, South Charleston.
He is survived by a son, Burton W. Payne of Walton; a daughter, Sheila Crihfield of Clendenin; two sisters, Patty Hersman of Gandeeville and Marie Cobb of Ravenswood; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Parsons Payne in 2000; a brother, George Payne; and three sisters, Orpha Parsons, Betty Randolph and Katie Shaffer.

Donzel Wesley Webb
Donzel Wesley Webb, 79, of Spencer, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010 at Webb’s Tender Care Home, Spencer.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Dale and Iva Mae Rhodes Webb. He worked in construction and was a lifelong heavy equipment operator. He was a Marine Corps veteran. His interests included car racing.
He is survived by a daughter, Regina Norris of St. Augustine, Fla; a sister, Linda Marie Bullard of Spencer; three brothers, Jerry Webb of Reedy and Bobby and Roy Webb, both of Spencer; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lila Smith Webb.
Service was Sunday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, with Bill Walton officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Cemetery, Grantsville.
