James Marshall Engle
James Marshall Engle, 61, of Baltimore, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007 at St. Agnes Healthcare, Baltimore, after an extended illness.
He was born in Charles Town, a son of the late James Garland Engle Jr. and Elsie Virginia Hardy Engle Mowry.
He is survived by one half-brother, Robert Mowry of Spencer; and his stepfather, George Mowry of Spencer.
Service and burial was Saturday at Church of God Cemetery, Ovapa. John H. Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Oral F. Greathouse
Oral F. Greathouse, 66, of Spencer, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007 at Roane General Hospital.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Ruth Leota Greathouse. He worked for Spencer Newspapers and retired from Roane General Hospital.
He is survived by one sister, Lilly Hughes of Ohio; one stepson, Samuel Wright of Spencer; and one step-granddaughter and two step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Opal A. Norman Wright Greathouse.
Service was Sunday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Jackie Roberts officiating. Burial was in Hill Grove Cemetery.
Imogene Harris
Imogene Harris, 73, of Spencer, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007 at Roane General Hospital.
She was born at Dawes, a daughter of the late Clyde and Effie Marie Harris Myles. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ann Harris of Left Hand and Brenda Ann McCracken of Sutton; three sons, Danny Michael Harris, Delbert Harris and Donald Myles, all of Spencer; one sister, Willadean Newton of Mt. Hope; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Leonard Harris, as well as brothers and sisters.
Service was Monday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home. Burial was in Sanaiville Cemetery, Staats Mill.
Maxwell Holland
Maxwell Holland, 91, of St. Albans, died Saturday, Dec. 1 at Faith Works Personal Care Home.
He was born at Linden, the son of the late James Noah and Artie Ferrell Holland. He was a retired foreman with Union Carbide, South Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Justine; one daughter, Sue Miller of St. Albans; one brother, Frederick of Dunbar; two grandsons, two step-granddaughters, two great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Service was Tuesday at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.

Ida Mae Phillips
Ida Mae Phillips, 96, of Sandyville, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007 at Eldercare of Ripley.
She was born in Roane County, a daughter of the late Frank and Rosa Hunt Evilsizer. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rexel G. Phillips.
Service was Tuesday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Mike King officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Luella N. Ridenour
Luella Nichols Ridenour, 78, of Powell, Tenn., died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007 at Parkwest Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Charles and Arthelia Nichols. She was a member of Freeway Church of God.
She is survived by one daughter, Crystal Duke; one son, Donald Nichols; one sister, Jewel Carpenter; six brothers, Jack, Howard, LeRoy, Donnie, Gary and Kenneth Nichols; and two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Coy Nichols and Newman Ridenour; one sister, Francis Nichols; and two brothers, Reuben and Boyd Nichols.
Service is 7 p.m. today (Thursday) at Holley Gamble Funeral Home, Clinton, Tenn., with Pastor Dave Hickson officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Otto Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home two hours prior to the service.
Andrew W. Sampson
Andrew William Sampson died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007 in Antigua, Fuerteventura, Spain, after a brief illness.
He is survived by his mother, Xenia Jones of Reedy; one sister, Suzanne Reip of Reedy; and one brother, Wesley Sampson Jr. of Florence, S.C.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Sampson Sr.; and one brother, Matthew John Sampson.
Service will take place later.
Dorothy E. Summerfield
Dorothy E. Summerfield, 77, of Spencer, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007 at home.
She was born at Walton, a daughter of the late Amos “Bo” and Martha Ann Tolley Moore. She was a homemaker. She also worked at McDonald’s of Spencer and Dairy Queen. She attended Spencer Baptist Temple.
She is survived by her husband, Benjamin Summerfield of Spencer; five sons, Dennis Jerry Ashby of Comfort, Eugene Lester Ashby of Spencer, Keith Roy Ashby of Spencer, Lee Edward Ashby of Nicholas County and Carl Douglas Ashby of Gandeeville; two daughters, Eleanor Pearl Smith of Tallmadge, Ohio, and Anna Mae Perolis of Tallmadge; two sisters, Audra Deal of Poca and Shirley Marks of Walton; and 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Luster Ashby and Earl Lee Humphreys; one daughter, Barbara Ellen Cox; one sister, Irene Summers; four brothers, Walter, Clarence “Jake”, E. John and Alvin Moore; and one granddaughter.
Service was Wednesday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Smith Epling officiating. Burial was in Gandeeville Cemetery.
