Sidney Boggs
Matthew Sidney Boggs, 59, of Spencer, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007 at Hubbard Hospice Care, Charleston.
He was born in Spencer, a son of the late Hoyt and Clara Brown Boggs. He was a 1966 graduate of Spencer High School and attended Glenville State College. He worked briefly for the U.S. Postal Service, then began as a freelance photographer around 1970, including working with Spencer Newspapers since 1972. He was a member of the Spencer City Council, the Roane County Chamber of Commerce, the Spencer Development Authority, the Spencer/Roane Volunteer Fire Department and a former member of DeMolay.
Service was Tuesday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Larry “Butch” Greathouse and Bill Walton officiating. Spencer mayor Terry Williams gave a eulogy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Spencer-Roane Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 673, Spencer WV 25276.
James Paul Bush
James Paul Bush, 40, of Spencer, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007 at CAMC General Division, Charleston.
He was born in Parkersburg, a son of Jim and Barbara Wise Bush. He was a former timberman and worked for Key Energy. He was a U.S. navy veteran.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his fiancée, Cindy Nichols; two daughters, Christie Dawn of Walton and Hannah of Atlanta; one son, Cameron of Atlanta; one sister, Becky Dunaway of Red House.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charley, Matthew and Dennis.
Service was Monday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. John Price officiating. Burial was in Hodam Cemetery with military graveside rites.
Robert L. Casto
Robert L. Casto, 78, of Vienna, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007 at Arbors, Marietta.
He was born in Spencer, a son of the late Raymond and Ethel Monroe Casto. He was a 1947 graduate of Spencer High School and retired from C&P Telephone/Bell Atlantic after 38 years. He served two years with the army engineers during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of Telephone Pioneers of America and a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Willadean Camp Casto; one son, Craig of Vienna; one daughter, Kathy Ferrell of Vienna; one brother, Charles of Willard, Ohio; and six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene.
Service and burial was Friday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Rev. H. Earle Arthur officiating. Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements.
Ann DeBolt
Ann DeBolt, 70, of Southgate, previously of Spencer, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Lee DeBolt; four daughters, Roberta Kujawa, Deborah Shuford, Roxanne Adkins and Laurie DeBolt; one sister, Thelma “Jackie” Thivierge; three brothers, Dale, Denzil and Fred Chapman; and nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Allen Joe Chapman.
Service was Friday at R.J. Nixon Funeral Home, Wyandotte.
Roy Lee Ellis
Roy Lee Ellis, 72, of Newton, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at the Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after a short illness.
He was born at Newton, a son of the late Lee and Nannie Nester Ellis. He was retired from Hobet Mining, Julian, and he was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Newton.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Rowe Ellis; one son, Randall Lane Ellis of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one daughter, Roylene Ellis Moles of Elkview; three brothers, Lane of White Sulphur Springs, Kent of Laurel Nursing Home, Big Otter, and Frank of Bellevue, Ohio; six sisters, Ronda Smith of Newton, Joyce Fanaza of Boardman, Ohio, Jean Brannon of Dillsburg, Pa., Martha Cox of Charleston, Judy DePue of Winfield and Sheila Minardi of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Delano and Daniel; and an infant sister.
Service was Saturday at Cornerstone Baptist Church, with Pastor Roy H. Huffman officiating. Burial was in Laurel Point Cemetery, Newton. John H. Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

David Wayne Flowers
David Wayne Flowers, 58, of Spencer, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2007 at Roane General Hospital.
He was born at Leon, a son of the late Roma Eileen Flowers Jordan, Dwight Jordan and Alvin Eugene Casto. He was a retired salesman for Hutchison Sanitary Supply, an army veteran of Vietnam and a Protestant.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Carol Wilson Flowers; two daughters, Vickie Herdman and Bethany Flowers, both of Leon; one step-daughter, Meagan Casto of Spencer; one brother, Austin Jr. of Minneapolis; one sister, Sheila Manning of New Haven; his step-mother, June Casto of Canton, Ohio; and five grandchildren.
Service was Sunday at Baden Presbyterian Church, Leon, with Rev. Stanley Shaffer and Rev. Randy Wilson Sr. officiating. Military honors were provided by American Legion Post #107, Ripley. Casto Funeral Home, Evans, was in charge of arrangements.

James J. Harris Jr.
James J. Harris Jr., 85, of Elyria, Ohio, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007 at home following a long illness.
He was born in Reedy, a son of the late James Sr. and Mamie Buck Harris. He received an honorary diploma from Elyria High School in 1940. He served with the United States Army during World War II, receiving the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one bronze star, the WWII Victory Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button and a Purple Heart. He was employed by Ford Motor Company, Brookpark, Ohio, and retired in 1978. He was a member of Freewill Baptist Church, Wellington, Ohio, and later in Elyria.
He is survived by three daughters, Francis Davis of Grafton and Ruby Atkinson and Virginia Lucas, both of Hurricane; two sons, James and Roger Evans, both of Elyria; one sister, Cora Hill of Rockledge, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Audra Board Harris; one daughter, Rosalie Fletcher; one son, Robert Eugene Evans; one sister, Belva Milhaune; and four brothers, Elmer, Earl, Tom and Calvin Harris.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, with Rev. Chuck Keesee officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Mount Lebanon Cemetery.

Danny R. Jarvis
Danny R. Jarvis, 51, of Left Hand, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston.
He was born at Left Hand, a son of Ellet Jr. and Evelyn Tallman Jarvis of Left Hand.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Donald R. Jarvis of Left Hand.
Service was Sunday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Webb officiating. Burial was in Jarvis Cemetery, Left Hand.
Rex Starcher
Rex Starcher, 89, of Spencer, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007 at Roane General Hospital.
He was born at Clover, a son of the late Sylvester S. and Mae Elizabeth Langford Starcher. He was a 1935 graduate of Spencer High School and then went into the special services of the U.S. army in World War II. He worked for Kaiser Aluminum from 1958 until retiring in 1981. He was a Spencer City Council member for 32 years, a former chairman of the Roane County Democratic Executive Committee and member of Moriah Lodge #38 AF&AM. He was also a member of the Roane County Chamber of Commerce and president of the Black Walnut Festival for three years.
He is survived by one sister, Joretta Foster of Vienna.
He was preceded in death by eight siblings, Earliss Starcher, Goldie Young, Ruth Simmons, Opal Stout and Willard, Alvin, Bernard and O.L. “Bill” Starcher.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Ruth Grimm officiating and Spencer mayor Terry Williams delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in Starcher Cemetery, Arnoldsburg, with military graveside rites.

Haymond ‘Buck’ Tanner
Haymond H. “Buck” Tanner, 75, of Massillon, Ohio, formerly of Otto, died Monday, Sept. 10 at Country Lawn Nursing Home, Navarre, Ohio.
Born at Otto, he was a son of the late Charlie and Eva Wilson Tanner. He was retired from Republic Steel Corporation.
He is survived by his wife, Stella Sampson Tanner; two daughters, Rosalie Abbott of Apple Creek, Ohio and Deloris Curtiss of Massillon; two sons, Haymond Jr. of Dalton, Ohio, and Donzil of Massillon; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Service is 1 p.m. today (Thursday) at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial will be in Orma United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Rachel Marie Wolfe
Rachel Marie Wolfe, 81, of Palestine, died Sunday, Sept. 9 at her home.
She was born at Shock, a daughter of the late Earl B. and Pina Lee Miller. She was a schoolteacher for over 30 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Eppler of Palestine; six brothers, Ancel Miller of Garrettsville, Ohio, Rex Miller of Orrville, Ohio, Joe Miller of Stumptown and Hugh Jack Miller, Davey L. Miller and John Miller, all of Shock.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Brooks Wolfe.
Service was Wednesday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with evangelist Vernon Kerns officiating. Burial was in Miller Cemetery, Shock.
Mary E. Zarneski
Mary E. Zarneski, 62, of Reedy, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.
She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of the late Andrew F. and Anna Mary Carrabine Zarneski. She was a retired high school English teacher.
She is survived by one sister, Nancy VanLill of Calcra, Ala.; and one brother, Andrew Zarneski of Reedy.
Service was Saturday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father David Schmitt officiating. Burial was in Eventide Cemetery. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
