Robert ‘Stoney’ Caldwell
Robert L. “Stoney” Caldwell, 75, of Looneyville, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007 at his home after and extended illness.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Ballard P. and Sarah Matheney Caldwell. He was a heavy equipment operator in pipeline construction. He was a Korean War army veteran and a member of Landmark Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene Y. Godfrey Caldwell; five daughters, Deanna Engle of Left Hand, Rhonda Jett of Looneyville, Patty Mann of Kosciusko, Miss., and Charlene Falls and Sharon Nichols, both of Linden; three sons, Kenneth of Clover, Timothy of Looneyville and Charles “Chuck” of Spencer; one step-son, Kim Caim of Ohio; two sisters, Ocie Starcher and Bessie Anderson, both of Spencer; one brother, James of Spencer; and 19 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Robert A.; two brothers, Charles and Harry; and several half-brothers and half-sisters.
Service was Monday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.
David ‘Buck’ Marks Sr.
David Glendon “Buck” Marks Sr., 63, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007 at Charleston Area Medical Center.
He was born in Calhoun County, a son of Mabel Poling Marks of Grantsville and the late Walter C. Marks. He was a truck driver, mechanic and a member of the Arnoldsburg Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Deborah Louise Miller Marks of Millstone; one son, David Glendon Jr. of Mt. Zion; four daughters, Patricia Louise Hall of Arnoldsburg, Paula Denise King of Millstone, Teresa Sue Marks of Salem and Brenda Hicks of Belpre, Ohio; two brothers, John Ray of Medina, Ohio, and Billy Joe of Grantsville; four sisters, Mae Lemon of LeCanto, Fla., Erma Sinns of Cleveland and Barbara Bush and Connie McCartney, both of Grantsville; and 11 grandchildren.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by twin sons, Larry and Jerry.
Service is 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Ben Kerby and Rev. Cleston Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Poling-Marks Cemetery, Millstone.
Joshua Lee Roberts
Joshua Lee Roberts, 22, of Millstone, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2007.
He was born in Roane County, a son of Kevin and LaChelle Roberts of Millstone. He was employed by Key Energy, Arnoldsburg.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Brooke Meredith of Dearin, Ga.; two brothers, Coty and Cory of Millstone; one grandfather, Robert Garrett of Millstone; and one grandmother, Sue Roberts of Millstone.
He was preceded in death by two grandparents.
Service was Friday at Stump Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Metheney and Rev. Shelly Mace officiating. Burial was in Roberts Family Cemetery, Millstone.
Virginia Schutt
Virginia Schutt, 61, of Washington Court House, Ohio, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007 at Fayette Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Virginia, a daughter of the late Austin and Virginia Sheckler Jones. She was retired from the health care field.
She is survived by one daughter, Melanie Williams of Washington Court House; one son, Roger Harper of North Dakota; two brothers, Bill Jones of Georgia and Paul Jones of South Carolina; one sister, Anne Alner of Massachusetts; fiancé Ken Sizemore of Washington Court House; and two grandchildren.
The body was cremated. Burial was Saturday at Higby Creek Cemetery, Harmony. Summers Funeral Home, Washington Court House, was in charge of arrangements.
Betty Jean Tawney
Betty Jean Sheppard Tawney, 74, of Cross Lanes, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007 at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
She was born at Tariff, a daughter of the late Boyd and Vae Sheppard. She was a 1950 graduate of Spencer High School. She worked for the Bank of Dunbar and Charleston National Bank. She was a member of Community Chapel Church, Cross Lanes.
She is survived by her husband, E.J. “Jerry” Tawney; one son, Jeffery J. of Cross Lanes; one daughter, Deborah Jean Bradley of Scott Depot; one brother, Gerald Sheppard of Spencer; three sisters, Eleanor Hunt of Pinch, Carol Board of Spencer and Sue Haddox of Fairmont; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Service was Tuesday at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar, with pastors Mark Hess and Phillip Conn officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare, 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar WV 25064.
Clark Tawney
Clark Tawney, 91, of Wallback, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2007 at Select Specialty Hospital, Charleston.
He was born at Newton, a son of the late Aaron and Almon Graham Tawney. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a medic in the army. He was a member of Wallback United Methodist Church. He was owner and operator of Tawney’s Exxon, Wallback.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Beatrice Summers Tawney; one daughter, Bernice Jean Happney of Ravenswood; three brothers, Clement of Tariff, Jarrett “Buzz” of Spencer and Dan of Newton; three sisters, Mamie Haines of Newton, Florence Dalton of Vienna and Anna Desposito of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Earnest and Garrison; and one sister, Mabel Tawney Rogers.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Wallback United Methodist Church with Rev. Ralph Keener officiating. Burial will be in Tawney Cemetery, Newton, with graveside rites performed by American Legion Post #61, Clendenin. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
