Tommy James Ashby Sr.
Tommy James Ashby Sr., 65, of Covington, Ga., formerly of Spencer, died Thursday, July 26, 2007 at home.
He was born in Boone County,a son of the late Vivian and Ruby Hager Ashby. He attended Spencer High School. He was retired from Clayton County as a lieutenant in the Corrections Office. He attended Solid Rock Baptist Church, Covington. He served in the Army during theVietnam War. He was a member of the Masons in the Worthville Lodge #127 and a member of the Ancian Yorkrite.
He is survivedby his wife, Mary Ashby; two sons, Tommy and Kevin; one daughter, Kim Durand; three sisters, Ella Bias of Hewett, Sharon Price of Cross Lanes and Susan Ashby of Atlanta, Ga.;four brothers, Paul of Columbia, Terry of Tucker, Ga., and Douglas and Johnny, both of Ravenswood; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Servicewas Saturday, July 28 at Solid Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Franklin officiating. Memorial donations may be made toRelay for Life – Tommy’s Angels team of Covington.Wheeler Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
Helen Katherine Harmon
Helen Katherine Harmon, 77, of Reedy, died Sunday, August 5, 2007 at home.
She was a daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Ella Nora Zwick Anderson. She was a homemaker, native of Tyler Mountain and a Baptist.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Katherine Elmore of Buckhannon and Martha Louise Ulbrich of Middleport, Ohio; one son, James of Reedy; and four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Harmon; one son, Joseph Franklin; one sister; one brother; and one grandson.
Service and burial is at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at Clover Cemetery with Rev. Sinnett Summers officiating. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Dolly L. Jarvis
Dolly L. Jarvis, 88, of Grantsville, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Minnie Hamilton Health Services, Grantsville, after a short illness.
She was born at Wallback, a daughter of the late Wyatt and Dorcas Morris Gray. She was a homemaker after having worked at Goodyear Rubber Plant, Akron, Ohio, during World War II. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Wallback, and of White Oak Baptist Church, Chloe.
She is survived by two sons, Steve of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Roger of Grantsville; one sister, Merle Summers of Walback; and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Roy Brooks Jarvis; nine brothers, Broaddus, Audra, Dorman, Gerald, Wade, Herby, Burl, Doyle and Shirley; and three sisters, Mabel Moore, Maysel Moore and Claris Shamblin.
Service was Friday at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. John Vannoy officiating. Burial was in Prudence Chapel Cemetery, Minnora.
Sheila Ann Jones
Sheila Ann Jones, 51, of Spencer, died Saturday, August 4, 2007 at her home after a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Clendenin, a daughter of Jean Shafer Dunlap of Clendenin and the late John Dunlap. She was a teacher at Geary Elementary/Middle School for 28 years.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Katie and Sara; three sisters, Drema Hodge of Clendenin and Carol Hershberger and Lynn Lafever, both of Aiken, S.C.; and two brothers, Johnny Dunlap of Spencer and Michael Dunlap of Elkview.
Service was Tuesday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. John Putnam officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.
General H. Lamb
General H. Lamb, 73, of Nebo, died Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Big Otter.
Born in Calhoun County, he was a son of the late Ollie Hall. He was a retired timberman.
He is survived by five sons, Roger of Grantsville, Robert of Nicut, Keith of Hallburg, Billy of Elmira and Joe of North Carolina; two daughters, Rosemary Duffield of Ovapa and Ann Lamb of Duck; one brother, Russell Hall of Charleston; two sisters, Evelyn Sears and Naomi Metheney, both of Floe; his caregiver and granddaughter, Tracy Cottrell; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Lamb.
Service and burial was Sunday at Green Cemetery, Nebo, with Rev. Darius Arnold officiating. Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, was in charge of arrangements.
Mary E. Nugen
Mary E. Nugen, 90, of Spencer, formerly of Summersville, died Monday, August 6, 2007.
She was born in Nicholas County, a daughter of the late Marshall and Mertie Bell Tyree. She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper at Citizens Chevrolet, Clay. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spencer and had been an active member and Sunday school teacher at Summersville Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Clay.
She is survived by two daughters, Sue Sayre of Dayton, Tenn., and Mary Ann Wilson of Spencer; one son, Mike Nugent of Mineral Wells; and nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orval W. Nugen; one brother, Paul Tyree; and one sister, Ezelle Hypes.
Service is at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at First Baptist Church of Spencer with Rev. Michael F. “Mike” King and Rev. Dr. Curtis Sayre officiating. Burial is in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Summersville. John H. Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth Dale Rainwater
Kenneth Dale Rainwater, 70, of Spencer, died Friday, August 3, 2007 at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston.
He was born in Bonarton, Texas, a son of the late Floyd and Ruth Rush Rainwater. He was superintendent for FWA Drilling Company and a member of Spencer Tabernacle Church.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Miller Rainwater; two daughters, Kimberly Fox of Spencer and Treva Melvin of Pikeville, Ky.; one brother, Odel Rainwater of Bowie, Texas; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Service was Monday at Speed United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Maloney officiating. The body was cremated. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Bonetta ‘Bonnie’ Tucker
Bonetta “Bonnie” Tucker, 82, of Sand Ridge, died Monday, July 30, 2007 at Miletree Center.
Born at Euclid, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Holly Nicholas Schartiger.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald of Smithville, Ohio, and Donald Ray of Arnoldsburg; two daughters, Lola Butler of Orrville, Ohio, and Opal Harris of Grantsville; one brother, Walter Schartiger of Pennsylvania; and 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer; one sister, Vera; and one brother, Russell.
Service was Thursday at Orma United Methodist Church with Rev. David Weaver officiating. Burial was in Orma Cemetery. Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, was in charge of arrangements.
