Brady “Donnie” Hickel
Brady Donas “Donnie” Hickel III, 57, of Pineville, N.C., died Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at Presbyterian Hospital in North Carolina.
He was born at Given, a son of the late Brady D.Hickel, Jr. and Juanita Carmichael Hickel Bruestle. He was a teacher, testing coordinator and coach at Waddell High School and also taught and coached at Carmel Junior High School and at South Mecklenburg, N.C. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church, Belmont, N.C. He was a Spencer High School graduate and graduated from Glenville State College. He was formerly a teacher and coach in CabellCounty and was also a former member of Gilboa Baptist Church, Reedy.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Kelly Hickel; two daughters, Kelly Jacksonof Cornelius, N.C., and Amy Latham of Belmont; one son, Brady D. “Brad” Hickel IV of Rock Hill, S.C.; one sister, Juanita “Nita Mae” Hickel of Vienna; four brothers, Gary Schiefer of Levada, Ohio, John Hickel of Valparaiso, Ind., David Hickel of Orma and Bill Hickel of Pt. Pleasant; and six grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Betty Lou Hickel; and his stepfather, Hugh Bruestle.
Service was Saturday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Lawing officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Given.
William Roy Lipscomb
William Roy Lipscomb, 81, of Avon Park, Fla., died Sunday, June 17, 2007 at his home.
He was in West Virginia the son of Oscar and Belva Justice Lipscomb. He served in the U.S. Army during post-World War II.He worked as a truck driver for 50 years and retired in 1996.
He is survived by four sons, John Lipscomb of Vienna, James Lipscomb of Lake Placid, Fla., Ronnie Lipscomb of Sebring, Fla., and Tony Thompson of Avon Park; two daughters, Pamela Spinuzziof Gainesville, Fla., and Cynthia Smith of Avon Park; one sister, Orvie Nichols of Linden; and 17grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Service was Wednesday, June 20 at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home, Avon Park, with Rev. John Douglas officiating.
Lillian Cora Miller
Lillian Cora Miller, 76, of Spencer, died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at her home.
She was a retired employee of the Macke Company, Parkersburg. She was a member of the Roane General Hospital Auxiliary, Roane County Democrat Women and Epling Chapel Baptist Church, Looneyville. She was also active in the Roane County Committee on Aging and PATCH.
She is survived by her husband, H. Robert “Bob” Miller, Jr. of Parkersburg; one daughter, Penny D. Cole of Parkersburg; two sons, Donald Michael Joseph of Parkersburg and H. Robert “Rob” Miller III of Spencer; one brother, Dale Gordon of Belpre, Ohio; and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mertie Rexroad Gordon; one stepson, Richard “Dick” Miller; three brothers, Cleo, Charles and Earl Gordon; four sisters, Ivy Kerns, Tilley Wheldon, Janie Haught and Mildred Gordon.
Service was Sunday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home. Burial was in Eventide Cemetery.
William “W.D.” Nichols
William Dexter “W.D.” Nichols, 71, of Spencer, died Tuesday, June 17, 2007 at Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston.
He was born in Reedy, a son of the late Jarrett and Jane Straight Nichols. He was a member of Boggs Fork Community Church and taught the adult Sunday school class. He was a member of Moriah Lodge 38 AF&AM and Wetzel Chapter 27 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a captain in the Spencer-Roane Volunteer Fire Department and served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired fromKaiser Aluminum, Ravenswood, and later worked at Tom Parrill Chevrolet.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Violet Irene Shreve Nichols; one son, WilliamMichael Nichols of Clover; two daughters, Debra Lynn Nichols Gray of Mt. Nebo and Sherrie Ann Nichols Burgess of Spencer; one sister, Alice Matics of Reedy; four brothers, Jerry, David, Kenny and Pete Nichols, all of Spencer; and six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant grandson.
Funeral was Saturday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Davis officiating. Burial was in Eventide Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by the Moriah Lodge.
