Paul A. Anderson

Paul A. Anderson, 78, of Gandeeville, died Thursday, June 7, 2007, at his home after an extended illness.
He was born at Ryan, a son of the late George F. and Mary A. Westfall Anderson. He was a retired carpenter and farmer and enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Harris Anderson of Gandeeville; one daughter, Joyce Brown of Alexandria, Ala.; one sister, Reva Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Ann Anderson; one sister, Ruby Frederick; and four brothers, Boyd, Olen, Harry and Billy Anderson.
Service was Saturday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. William L. “Bill” Walton officiating. Burial was in Ferrell Cemetery, Vicars.

Betty L. Atkinson

Betty L. Foster Atkinson, 76, of Spencer, died Sunday, June 10, 2007, in Cedar Grove Personal Care Facilities, Parkersburg.
She was born in Spencer, a daughter of the late Jarrett A. and Carrie A. Smith Foster. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spencer, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the Board of Christian Education and a member of the Prayer Ministries. She was a 4-H leader for 35 years. Also, she was a member of the Roane County 4-H Foundation and the 4-H All-Stars. She was co-founder and co-coordinator of Roane County CAP. She was a former president of the Roane County Republican Women. She was a member of the Roane General Hospital Auxiliary, the board of directors of Building Blocks Child Development Center and the Roane County Retired School Personnel. She retired in 1994 from the Roane County Board of Education as a counselor serving Spencer Middle School. She served as president and treasurer of the W.Va. Professional Educators Association Inc. She was a member of the American Association of Counselors; former treasurer and membership chairperson of the W.Va. Counselors Association. She was a 1947 graduate of Spencer High School. She earned her Bachelor’s at Marshall University and her Master’s in counseling at WVCOGS.
She is survived by two daughters, Jane Beth Page of Pinehurst, N.C., and Carrie Ann Brezinski of Athens; two sons, Ronald D. Atkinson of Vass, N.C., and Randall L. Atkinson of Parkersburg; one sister, Nancy R. Bennett of Eleanor; and seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, June Y. Mount.
Service was Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Spencer with Rev. Michael F. “Mike” King officiating. Burial was in Eventide Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Roane County 4-H Foundation or Building Blocks Child Development Center. John H. Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Blanche M. Jones

Blanche M. Jones, 85, of Spencer, died Friday, June 8, 2007, at Roane General Hospital.
She was born at Sun, a daughter of the late Wesley and Florence Dotson McCormick. She had worked for several years in different restaurants in the Spencer area and she was a member of Spencer Tabernacle.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Ann Roach of Mineral Wells; and four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Jones; one son, Randall Critchfield; two brothers, John and Andy McCormick; and four sisters, Alice Grass, Mae Elkins, Marie Murdock and Georgia Smith.
Service was Sunday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Garry L. Bowen officiating. Burial was in Eventide Cemetery.

Bessie Marie Long

Bessie Marie Long, 86, of Richmond, Va., originally of St. Albans, died Saturday, June 9, 2007.
She is survived by one daughter, Donna Vaughan of Midlothian, Va.; two sons, Fred Long of Mechanicsville, Va., and Ernest Long of Richland, Mo.; one sister, Elsie Knapp of St.Albans; two brothers, Jack and Howard Burdett, both of Spencer; and eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donzel Long.
Service was Tuesday at First Baptist Church, St. Albans, with Rev. Joel Harpold officiating. Burial was in Cunningham Memorial Park, St.Albans. Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans, was in charge of arrangements.

JoAnne Webb

JoAnne Webb, 47, of Cross Lanes, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston.
She was born in Akron, Ohio, a daughter of Robert and Juanita E. Carper Webb of Cross Lanes, formerly of Walton. She was a customer service representative for Cingular Wireless. She had worked as a beautician, a makeup artist for Photo-1, Kellwood Corp., and as manager for Shoe Show. She was a graduate of Walton High School.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one daughter, Ashlee Nicole Lane of Charleston; one brother, Robert Allen Webb of Broadway, Va.; cherished companion, Jeff Vicars of Charleston; and special dad, Ray George of Charleston.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Brad and Mable Carper and Guy and Hattie Parsons.
Service was Friday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Roberts officiating. Burial was in Epling Chapel Cemetery, Looneyville.

• Correction

Information submitted for an obituary published last week for Joyce Ann Lawrence was incorrect. She was survived by a son, Phillip C. Lawrence.
