Larry P. Mangus
--Larry P. Mangus, 62, of Mt. Zion died Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at his home.
He was born in Logan County, a son of the late Albert and Bertha Garrett Mangus. He was a former coal miner and a member of Five Forks Community Church.
He is survived by his wife, Patty Mangus; one son, Curtis of Dawsonville, Ga.; one daughter, Tyrena Mangus of Mt. Zion; one brother, Arnold Mangus of Festus, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Service was Sunday at Five Forks Community Church with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial was in Collins Community Cemetery, Stumptown.
Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, was in charge of arrangements.
Henry Richard Nichols
--Henry Richard Nichols, 81, of Spencer died Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Miletree Center.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Robert and Icy Young Nichols. He was a timberman and a member of Slate United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Nichols Nichols; three sons, James “Dick” Nichols of Looneyville, Robert L. and David Nichols, both of Linden; three stepsons, David Holcomb of Calhoun County, Wayne Holcomb of North Carolina and Jerry Mace of Gandeeville; one stepdaughter, Debra Wolfe of Walton; one brother, Romie Nichols of Linden; and 21 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Homer Nichols.
Service was Tuesday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Whited officiating. Burial was in Blessed Hope Cemetery, Spencer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Slate United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 446, Spencer WV 25276.
Louis “Red” Nichols
--Louis Stevens “Red” Nichols, 54, of Looneyville, died Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Roane General Hospital.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Homer Forest and Blondenna Mae Nichols. He was a timberman.
He is survived by two sisters, Violet Kirkbride of McConnellsville, Ohio, and Brenda Tawney of Marietta, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lisa Ann Nichols.
Service was Sunday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. John Putnam officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.
Gary “Bub” Roberts
--Gary “Bub” Roberts, 65, of Millstone died Monday, March 5, 2007.
He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Lane and Gladys Putnam Roberts. He was a retired employee of GTE and was an employee of Babcock Lumber Company of Glenville. He was president of Lick Run Hunt Club.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Sue Jarvis Roberts; two sons, Kevin Roberts of Arnoldsburg and Keith Roberts of Millstone; three daughters, Kelly Cottrill of Orma, Kristy Carder of Orma and Kathy Conley of Mt. Zion; one brother, Delmas Roberts of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, June McDowell of North Carolina and Jean Carte of Cottageville; and 13 grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one foster sister, Dorla Heater.
Service was Saturday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in Roberts Family Cemetery, Millstone.
Charles W. West Sr.
--Charles W. West Sr., 77, of North Hollywood, Calif., formerly of Spencer, died Tuesday, March 6, 2007.
He was born in Spencer, a son of the late Willie C. and Anna V. Lowe West. He was a 1947 graduate of Spencer High School and attended Marshall University and Glenville State College. He was a retired claims executive in the insurance industry.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eunice M. West; one son, Charles W. West Jr. of Taylor, Mich.; and five grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Service was Saturday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Luke Easter officiating. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Spencer.
Connie Matthew Willis
--Connie Matthew Willis, 68, of Spencer died Monday, March 12, 2007 at CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston, after a brief illness.
He was born in Morehead City, N.C., a son of George and Mable Fulcher Willis. He was a gunsmith, a clock maker and jack-of-all-trades. He enjoyed shooting guns and fishing and attended Boggs Fork Community Church.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Susan Spencer Willis; two daughters, Joan and Joy, both of North Carolina; two stepdaughters, Betty Gallagher and Susan Spry, both of North Carolina; one stepson, Dale Kovacs of North Carolina; one brother, Frank Willis, also of North Carolina; and several grandchildren.
Service is 2 p.m. Saturday at Boggs Fork Community Church with Rev. Charles Davis officiating. The body was cremated.
Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
