Ray Branard

--Ray Branard, 76, of Spencer died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007 at Nellis Nursing Home, Elkins.
He was born in Kanawha County, a son of the late Tom Branard and Alice Cain Cross Branard Wren. He was a crane operator for Ryerson Steel, Cleveland.
He is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Simmons of High Springs, Fla., Denise Cosby of Cleveland and Gail Day of Ohio; three sons, Roy Branard of Spencer, Ricky Branard of Alachua, Fla., and Joe Branard of Cleveland; one sister, Betty Trammel of Milan, Ohio; one brother, Thomas Branard of Radcliff, Ky.; and 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Ray Branard Jr.; two sisters, Anna Lea Landers and Phyllis Harbert; and stepmother, Opal Spangler.
Service was Wednesday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Whited officiating. Burial was in Ward Cemetery, Cedar Grove.

David O. Hamrick

--David O. Hamrick, 60, of Gandeeville died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006.
He was born at Gandeeville, a son of the late William N. and Aldena G. Rhodes Hamrick. He was a general manager for Diamond Comics and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by three brothers, Bobby Joe Hamrick and Tony Hamrick, both of Gandeeville, and Eddie Hamrick of Texas; and three sisters, Mary Rose Zeno of Gandeeville, Susan Ann Linkinogger of Spencer and Pancheta Scammel of Florida.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Tom and Billy Hamrick.
Per his wishes, the body was cremated. There was no service.
Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Lee Young Hays

--Dorothy Lee Young Hays, 76, of Sandyville, formerly of Roane County, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007 at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, after an extended illness.
She was born in Kanawha County, a daughter of the late Dewey and Sylvia Parsons Young. She was a member of Ripley Church of Christ.
She is survived by two daughters, Lois Raines of Tennessee and Eugenia Thomas of Letart; five brothers, Jennings Young of Liverpool Road, George Young of Ripley, Russell Young of Delaware, Tom Young of Maryland and Jim Young of Duncan; four sisters, Betty Sydenstricker, Nancy Anderson, both of Charleston, Arlene Boggess of Liverpool Road and Gale Rhodes of Ripley; and four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Hays in 1990; one son, Adam Hays; and two brothers, infant Anthony Young and Donald Young in 2006.
Service was Thursday at Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with Rev. Clifton McLawhorn officiating. Burial was in White Pine Cemetery near Ripley.

Russel Dale Jett

--Russel Dale “Rusty” Jett, 24, of Norfolk, Va., formerly of Spencer, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006 in Portsmouth, Va.
He was born in Tucson, Ariz., a son of Richard Dana and Janice Laverne McCullough Jett, both of Spencer. He was employed as a truck driver for Transforce, Virginia Beach, coached Special Olympics and was a Marine Corps veteran.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Roland and Lois Jett of Spencer; and one sister, Rebecca Pickens of Spencer.
Memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Visiting hours are one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be conducted by local veterans groups.

Paul Edward Longfellow

--Paul Edward Longfellow, 35, of Leroy, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007 at his home after an extended illness.
He was born in Ripley, a son of Della Ann Milhoan Longfellow Mace of Leroy and the late Larry Allen Longfellow Sr. He formerly worked for Shinn Electric and was disabled. He was a member of Parchment Valley Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, George Mace; one son, Gary Longfellow of Ripley; two sisters, Kristen Bergdorf of Millwood and Becky Hager of Stanford, Va.; and two brothers, Chadwick “Chad” Longfellow and Larry Longfellow Jr., both of Leroy.
Service is 1 p.m. today (Thursday) at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Keen officiating. Visitation is two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Leroy.

Walter Allen Miller

--Walter Allen Miller, 77, of Spencer died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital, Charleston.
He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Samuel G. and Alta Mace Miller. He was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic, a member of Masonic Lodge and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Roberts Miller; seven stepchildren, Lamire Fouty, Crystal Ash, Holly Paugh, Kimberly Camp, Anthony Roberts, Beverly Roberts and Randy Roberts; four brothers, Doyle J., Odus, Earl L. and Franklin D. Miller; and 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Oral, Eugene H., Edgar, Samuel and Paul Miller.
Service was Sunday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Hayward Lough and Bill Walton officiating. Burial was in Clover Cemetery.

Ina G. Post

--Ina G. Post, 93, of Martins Ferry, Ohio, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007.
She was born in Spencer, a daughter of the late Romie and Hattie Harris Ferrell. She was a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
She is survived by six daughters, Reta Coen of Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, Ina Mae Kuhn of Bridgeport, Ohio, Linda Tice of Jacobsburg, Ohio, Carol Toland, Kathy Smith and Cheryl Bennett, all of Martins Ferry; one son, Roger Post of Waxhaw, N.C.; one brother, Romie Ferrell Jr. of Aiken, S.C.; one sister, Beulah Smith of Spencer; and 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George H.D. Post; one son, Romie Post; two daughters, Sandra K. and Flora E. Post; five brothers, Royce, Jennings, Luster, Harold and Vernon Ferrell; and three sisters, Genevieve Ferrell, Betty Thompson and Golda Westfall.
Service was Monday at Heslop Funeral Home, Martins Ferry, with Rev. Paul Crane officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Martins Ferry.

Estellena “Stella” Stump

--Estellena “Stella” Stump, 86, of Sand Ridge died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007 at Roane General Hospital after a short illness.
She was born in Preston County, a daughter of the late Frank and Kathaleen Danks. She was raised in Calhoun County and lived most of her life there. She was a member of Albert’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Sand Ridge.
She is survived by one son, Kenman Stump; special friend, Arthur Haag of Sand Ridge; and two grandsons and one great-grandson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Joseph Adams; and husband, Minter Baxter Stump, in 1995.
Service was Wednesday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Rick Swearengin officiating. Burial was in Sand Ridge Cemetery.

Nancy W. Waggoner

--Nancy Westfall Waggoner, 53, of Ravenswood died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007 at her home.
She was born in Hinton and was raised in
Spencer, a daughter of the late Verna Brannon, formerly of Parkersburg, and the late Virgil Brannon, formerly of Marietta, Ohio.
She is survived by her children, Monica Fides of Ravenswood, Michael Westfall of Coolville, Ohio, Betsee Marshall and David Westfall, both of Parkersburg; three brothers, Hershal Morgan, Jr. Brannon, both of California, and Jim Brannon of Roncerverte; five sisters, Patti Sherman of Vienna, Alice Lockamy of Charlotte, N.C., Lila Conley of Hartville, Ohio, Charlotte Fought-Leasure of Fleming, Ohio, and Cindi Workman of Parkersburg; special friend, Miguel “Mike” Dejesus of Belpre, Ohio; and six grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman Morgan and Joe Brannon; and grandparents, William and Charlotte “Lottie” Thomas of Alderson and Lovell and Gaye Wilson of Spencer.
Service was Tuesday at Leavitt Family Center, Parkersburg. The body was cremated.
