George Robert Mowry

George Robert Mowry, 91, of Kenna, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Ravenswood Village, Ravenswood after an extended illness.
He was born at Wall, Pa., a son of the late George Young and Clio Valentine Harding Mowry. He was a retired agricultural engineer for the USDA. He was a 1937 graduate of Edgewood High School, of Penn State University with a B.S. in agricultural engineering and Kansas State University with an M.S. in agricultural engineering. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, a member of Ravenswood Church of God and the Ripley Senior Citizens.
He is survived by a son, Robert Young Mowry of Kenna, four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Virginia “Jean” Hardy Mowry; and one stepson, James Engle.
Service is at 6 p.m. today (Thursday) at Ravenswood Church of God, with Pastor Roger Cummings officiating. Visitation is from 5:30 p.m. until time of service. Burial, with military graveside rites, will be in the W.Va. National Cemetery, Grafton, at 1 p.m. Friday.

Lynn Marie Rogers

Lynn Marie Rogers Walker, 81, of Akron, Ohio, formerly of Newton, died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Summa, Akron City Hospital, after a brief illness.
She was born in Charleston. She was an employee of Little Forest Nursing Home in Akron for several years and retired from Summit Villa Care Center in Tallmadge, Ohio, after five years of service.
She is survived by sons, Michael Rogers of Clay, Timmy Rogers of Statesville, N.C., and Randy Rogers of Elkin, N.C.; daughters, Gale Carper of Mogadore, Ohio, Diane Carper of Akron and Deborah Jean Logsdon of Vienna; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The body was cremated. A memorial service will take place later. Newcomer Funeral Home, Akron, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert C. Staats

Robert Charles Staats, 75, of Walton, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from an apparent heart attack.
He was born in Parkersburg, a son of the late Robert Clay Staats and Agatha Farnsworth Staats Windland. He was retired from the United States government, Research and Development, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Faith Chapel Presbyterian Church, Leesburg, Va.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Richardson Staats; children, Robert Staats of Seymour, Ind., Alan Staats of New Martinsville, Cheryl Ridgeway of Parkersburg and Agatha Staats of Waterloo, Iowa; step-children, Roy and Jean White of Palm Beach, Fla., Heather and Ken Bibbee of Parkersburg and Travis and Renee White of Morehead, Ky.; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild, as well as his previous wife of 32 years, Delores Davis of St. Marys.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several uncles, aunts and a half sister.
Service was Saturday at Kimes Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Michael Richardson and lay speaker John Richardson officiating and military rites by American Legion Post #15 of Parkersburg. Burial was in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Walker. Condolences may be expressed online at kimesfh.com.

Roger Lee Stewart

Roger Lee Stewart, 61, of Spencer, died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston after an extended illness.
He was a son of the late Thomas J. and Diannah Hicks Stewart. He was a former employee of Visco, Clendenin Lumber, Southern States of Spencer and Raftco Truss Co. He was a member of Leatherbark Community Church, American Legion Post 21 in Spencer, and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by brothers Charles O. Stewart and Nolan G. Stewart, both of Spencer; half-sister, Wanda Crislip of Parkersburg; a nephew; a niece; a great-nephew; and a great-niece.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Stewart Lyons.
A graveside service with military rites was Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery, near Reedy, with Rev. Phil Lawrence officiating.
Donations may be made to American Legion Post 21, 1345 Arnoldsburg Rd., Spencer WV 25276, or to a charity of choice. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sherman Edward Wise

Sherman Edward Wise, 46, of Wallback, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at his home.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Sherman and Sara Jane Lockhart Wise. He was a small engine repair mechanic and landscaper. His interests included fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Wise; daughters, Angela and Theresa, both of Roane County; sons, David Starcher of Wallback, Harold Billingsley of Calhoun County and Keith Starcher of Roane County; sisters, Barb Bush, Katie Westfall, Helen Springston, Marie Tanner, Peggy Tanner and Dorothy Ted Harris, all of Spencer; brothers, Robert Wise of Mt. Olive, David Wise of Glenville, Ivan Wise of Spencer and Randy Wise of Ohio; 13 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Buck Wise; and sisters, Wanda Westfall and Susan Tanner.
Service was Friday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, with Rev. Jackie Roberts officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, near Spencer.

Pearl Scott Witte

Pearl Lenore Scott Witte, 86, of Belpre, Ohio, formerly of Roane County, died Sunday, July 11, 2010 at her residence.
She was born in Coolville, Ohio, a daughter of the late Thomas and Lona McDonald Scott. She was a homemaker and retired from St. Joseph’s Hospital in 1989. She was a 1942 graduate of Carthage-Troy High School, a member of the VFW, American Legion, Lotteridge Senior Center and the Rebekah Lodge of West Virginia.
She is survived by a son, Gary of Little Hocking, Ohio; daughters Sherri Ciulla of Williamstown and Vicki Beha of Washington; a sister, Francis Clem; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn Witte; brothers, Homer Scott, Charlie Scott, Bernard Scott and Robert Scott; and sisters, Geneve Barnhart, Ilene Golden, Thelma Walker and Doris Wolford.
Service was Wednesday at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville. Burial was in Torch Cemetery.
