Hazel Hall Ayers

Hazel Hall Ayers, 90, of Parkersburg, formerly of Arnoldsburg, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born at Arnoldsburg, a daughter of the late Edwin and Matilda Adams Hall. She was a retired postmaster, having served in the Arnoldsburg and Washington, W.Va., areas. She was a member of South Parkersburg United Methodist Church and enjoyed travel, reading, sewing, gospel music, bowling and was an avid WVU football fan.
She is survived by three sons, Michael Ayers of Fredricksburg, Va., Roger Ayers and Richard Ayers of Parkersburg; one daughter, Judith Stump of Parkersburg; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Vernon Ayers; one son, Francis Gaynell Ayers; seven brothers, Cleo, P. Dewey, Eufa, Bruce, Woodrow, George and Hershel Hall; seven sisters, Eliah Elliot, Lena Stump, Bethel Starcher, Eugene Hall, Odessa Hall, Vera Baranowski and Juanita Boswell; and one granddaughter.
Service was Wednesday at the Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville with Rev. Rick Brown, Rev. Phil Prunty and Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating. Burial was in the Nobe cemetery.
Maysel Marie Boggs

Maysel Marie Boggs, 90, of Reedy, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009 at Eagle Pointe, Parkersburg.
She was born at Orma, a daughter of the late John Lane and Belle Wayne Lane Barbe. She was a homemaker, formerly worked at O.J. Morrison, and was a member of the Roane General Hospital Auxiliary and Beech Grove Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda K. Boggs of Parkersburg, and Shirley T. Mace of Riverton, Wyo.; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bliss Boggs; stepfather, Otto Barbe; four sisters, Opal Umble, Clora Sheldon, Bernice Miller and an infant; along with an infant brother; and a stepsister, Lela Powell.
Service was Feb. 14 at Fairview Cemetery, Reedy, with Rev. Calvin McCutcheon officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Fairview Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 266, Spencer WV 25276.

Darrell Lee Heiney

Darrell Lee Heiney, 61, of Lewisburg, formerly of Glenville and Calhoun County, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 at Greenbrier Valley Hospital, Lewisburg.
He was born in Cleveland, a son of Pearl M. Simmons Heiney and the late Forest LeVere Heiney and was in the care of ResCare of Lewisburg.
In addition to his mother, he was survived by a sister, Dianne Heiney Smith of Spencer; nieces Shawn Smith Stanley, Dawn Smith Hymes, Kristi Smith Cecil; one great-niece; and three great-nephews.
Service was Monday at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville with Rev. Ken Heiney officiating. Burial was in the Betts Cemetery, Grantsville.

Alice Fay Hood

Alice Fay Hood, 70, of Walton, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 at Roane General Hospital.
She was born in Smithers, a daughter of the late Melvin and Bertha Asbury Walker. She was a homemaker, enjoyed embroidery and was a Missionary Baptist.
She is survived by her husband, William W. Hood Jr.; one daughter, Terri Renne Hood of Woodbridge, Va.; three sons, Malcom Walker of Cabins and William W. Hood III of Nokesville, Va., and Glen Dale Hood of Woodbridge; one sister, Ellen Lewis of Fayetteville; two brothers, Robert Walker of Stafford, Va., and Lewis Walker of Fredricksburg, Va., 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Wayne Hood.
There was no service. The body was cremated. Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Dr. William Porter, II

Dr. William Porter II, 90, of Spencer, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, after an extended illness.
He was born in Baltimore, a son of the late William Reid and Bertha Koldwey Porter. He was an Army veteran of World War II and earned his DVM at Texas A&M University.
He is survived by his son, William Reid Porter III of Spencer; four grandchildren, Josh Porter of Vincent, Ohio, Elizabeth Metheney of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., Eleanor and Shelly Porter of Spencer; and one great-grandson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Fitzgerald Porter.
Services were Saturday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Chacko and Rev. David Schmitt officiating.

Mildred Etta Scarberry

Mildred Etta Scarberry, 92, of Leroy, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 at her home.
She was born in Letart Falls, Ohio, a daughter of the late Raymond Asbury and Josie Louetta Park Sayre. She was a former employee of the Eastern Star Home at Millwood, and participated in the foster grandparents program and Cottageville Elementary School. She was a member of Chapter #16 Order of Eastern Star, Cottageville, and was a member of the Evergreen Hills Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and puzzles.
She is survived by her son, Charles Scarberry of Fanning Springs, Fla.; daughter, Connie Hancock of Stark, Fla.; brothers, Telford Sayre of McMechen and Dan Sayre of Parkersburg; sisters, Faye Coplin of Palestine, and Leota Saunders of Millwood; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer W. Scarberry; son, Ronald Scarberry; daughter, Carolyn Sue Scarberry; brothers, Millard Sayre, Ashford Sayre and Jack Sayre; sister, Leona; and a great-great-grandson.
Service was Saturday at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, with Pastor Mark Price and Rev. Gerald Sayre officiating. Burial was in Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville.
