Mabel C. Cassady

--Mabel Carpenter Cassady, 81, of Spencer died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006 at home.
She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Thurman and Sarah Kerby Miller. She was an employee of Kellwood Co. for many years and formerly owned and operated a boarding house in Parkersburg. She also lived in Akron, Ohio, for several years before moving back to Spencer.
She is survived by two brothers, William Miller of Spencer and Robert Ray of Franklin, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, H. Lee Carpenter; second husband, Bill Cassady; one sister, Kathleen Miller Martin; one brother, Edward Miller; two half-brothers, Oren and Lester Parks; and two half-sisters, Ora Parks Eismon and Madaline Parks.
Service is 1 p.m. today (Thursday) at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Memorial Cemetery.

Charles Cottle

--Charles “Charlie” Cottle, 82, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006 in Mesa, Ariz.
He was born at Peniel, a son of the late Olive Scott Cottle and Thomas Camden Cottle. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1944 and moved to Akron, Ohio, where he established a career in the ceramic engineering industry. He worked at Ohio Brass in Barberton, Ohio; Kyocera in San Diego; and Energy Conversion Devices, Troy, Mich. He was an active volunteer for Roane General Hospital, Reedy Senior Citizens and American Red Cross. He helped raise awareness about the Clinton Historical Society, Clinton, Ohio. He was an avid antique and glassware collector and a star basketball player on the 1944 Spencer High School basketball team.
He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Cottle of Mesa; one sister, Evelyn Brannon; and three step-granddaughters and three step-great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; six brothers, Otis, Roscoe, Clarence, Kermit, Bill and James; and one sister, Virgina.
Services were at Swigert-Easterling Funeral Home, Canal Fulton, Ohio. Burial was in Clinton Cemetery.

Josephine C. Hardesty

--Josephine Chancey Hardesty, 84, of Vienna died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006.
She was a daughter of the late Floyd U. and
Mary Alice Payne Ice of Spencer. She enjoyed cooking, playing the guitar and singing, making crafts and going camping and fishing. She is an honored member of the Corvette Club, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 15, and a past member of the Rebekahs.
She is survived by one daughter, Rita K. Chancey Lamp of Vienna; two brothers, Floyd Junior Ice and Jack Ice of Spencer; three sisters, Gladys Anderson of Weston, Emma M. Brown of Florida and Mamie Ruth Carpenter of Parkersbug; and four grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, William Larry Chancey; first husband, William “Ray” Chancey; second husband, Leslie M. Hardesty; two brothers, James Ice and an infant; and two sisters, Pearl Jeffries and Radie Tolley.
Service was Monday by the American Legion Unit No. 15 Women’s Auxiliary and Tuesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna with Pastor Jon Lands of Fellowship Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund.

Sandra Kay Jarvis

--Sandra Kay Jarvis, 61, of Chloe died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006 at CAMC, Charleston.
She was born at Chelyan, a daughter of the late Richard and Nellie Kirkpatrick Hawks. She was employed by Calhoun County Committee on Aging – West Fork Center and was a homemaker. She was a member of Unity Gospel Tabernacle, Stinson.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Charter Jarvis; two daughters, Karen Cottrell and Kim Perkins; three sisters, Anna Coble, Wanda Rose and Sharon King; and three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Dahlia Hawks.
Service is 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at Unity Gospel Tabernacle with Pastor Geoffrey Hamrick officiating. Burial will be in Clark Jarvis Cemetery, Chloe.
Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Samantha D. Pearson

--Samantha Dawn Pearson, 23 months, of Arnoldsburg died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006 in an auto accident near Spencer.
Born in Charleston, she was a daughter of Chad Pearson and Kimberly Tanner of Arnoldsburg.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandparents, Frances and Gail Tanner of Arnoldsburg; and paternal grandmother, Joann Pauley of Orma.
Service was Monday at Stump Funeral Home. Arnoldsburg with Rev. Rick Metheney officiating. Burial was in Loving Arms Cemetery near Orma.

Richard H. Turner

--Richard H. “Dick” Turner, 74, of Gandeeville died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after an extended illness.
He was born in Ogdensburg, N.Y., a son of Jean Porter Turner of Ogdensburg and the late Robert W. Turner. He was a retired pipefitter and a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, Local No. 73, Oswego, N.Y. He was a member of the NRA and the Waddington Lodge No. 0393, AF&AM, Waddington. He was a Navy veteran and a member of First Baptist Church of Spencer.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Joan Jennie-Belle White Turner of Spencer; two daughters, Dawn McCune of Spencer arnd Charlene Reed of Walton; one son, Daniel Turner of Gandeeville; two brothers, George Turner of Canton, N.Y. and Lawrence Turner of St. Lawrence County, N.Y.; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Sally Turner and Peggy Turner; and two brothers, David Turner and Art Turner.
There will be no service. John H. Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
