Maxine Greenawald
--Maxine Greenawald, 88, of Reedy died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006 at home after an extended illness.
She was born in St. Albans, a daughter of the late Floyd T. and Bessie Bryan Osborne. She was a homemaker, a 1936 graduate of St. Albans High School, member of Reedy Baptist Church and a resident of Roane County since 1975.
She is survived by one son, John Karl Greenawald of Reedy; one sister, Betty Chewning of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Meryl Albert Greenawald; one brother, Karl Osborne; and one sister, Josephine Meyers.
Graveside service was Sunday at Fairview Cemetery, Reedy with Rev. Charles E. “Chuck” Leisure officiating.
John H. Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Kanawha Hospice, 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar WV 25064.
Robert Lee Harper
--Robert Lee Harper, 74, of Spencer died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006 at CAMC General Hospital, Charleston.
He was born in Roane County, a son of the late Elmer and Freda V. Presley Harper. He retired from Roane County Board of Education as a mechanics assistant, attended Cicerone Community Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Good Harper; three children, Scott Harper of Terre Haute, Ind., Ronnie Harper of Evans and Dianna Drennen of Ripley; and four grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Harper.
Service was Friday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Arnold Shaffer officiating. Burial was in Harper Cemetery near Walton.
William Ray Stone
--William Ray “Bill” Stone, 45, of Spencer died Tuesday, Oct. 10, at home.
He was a son of James and Mildred Mullnax Stone. He was an
oilfield worker and an Army veteran. He was a Little League coach in Spencer and Ohio and a football chain crew member.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Maggie Austin of Spencer; one son, Bradley Stone of Spencer; three daughters, Rachel Austin, Sabrina Hite-Stone and Brianna Hite-Stone, all of Spencer; two stepsons, Joshua Austin of Ohio and Dustin Austin of Spencer; one brother, Allen Stone of Ohio; one sister, Carol Stubbner of Ohio; and one granddaughter.
Service was Monday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Michael F. “Mike” King officiating.

James R. Williams
--James R. Williams, 59, of Spencer died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006 at Roane General Hospital.
He was born in Spencer, a son of the late Victor L. and Arthelia A. Mace Williams. He was a disabled oilfield service rig hand. He enjoyed playing basketball and softball. Also he was an outdoorsman, who fished and hunted.
He is survived by three brothers, Robert W. Williams of El Paso, Texas, Maurice S. Williams of Dover, Ohio, and David Williams of Palestine; and two sisters, Jo Anne Peterson of Oak Hill and Dianna L. Neal of Deer Park, Texas.
There was no service or visitation.
