Robin S. Abbott
--Robin S. Abbott, 44, of Newton died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006 from injuries received in an automobile accident.
He was a 1980 graduate of Herbert Hoover High School. He was an employee of Flint Construction of Gassaway and a member of Carpenters Union No. 1207. He coached youth league baseball and basketball. He was a Christian and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and was an avid coon hunter.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Cyglenda Abbott; one daughter, Christina Abbott of the home; one son, Jeremy Abbott of the home; mother, Patricia Womack Abbott of Pinch; one brother, Charles Abbott of Pinch; one sister, Paula Lemasters of Newton; grandmother, Reba Womack of Pinch; and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his father, V. Paul Abbott, formerly of Pinch.
Service was Tuesday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Swor officiating. Burial was in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.
Matics Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Orda Q. Atkinson Sr.
--Orda Q. Atkinson Sr., 83, of Brandon, Fla., died on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006.
He was born in Spencer and was the 12th of 13 children. He lived in Brandon for 48 years. He was an entrepreneur and opened the first of four Atkinson’s Gift Shops in 1965. In 1971 he opened Atkinson’s Giftorama, a wholesale trade show for retail gift buyers, staged in the Curtis Hixon Convention Center, Tampa, Fla., three times a year. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Brandon for 20 years.
He is survived by his second wife, JoAnn Goodwin Atkinson; two brothers, Martin Atkinson Jr. and Howard Atkinson; one sister, Margie Lattimer; one son, O. Quenten Atkinson Jr.; one daughter, Martha Jayne Bell; and four grandchildren, two step-granddaughters, three great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years, Martha Rader Atkinson.
Service was Friday at Stowers Brandon Chapel, Brandon with Dr. Tommy Green officiating. Burial was in Hillsboro Memorial Gardens, Brandon.
Brian Keith Batten
--Brian Keith Batten, 33, of Spencer died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006 at home.
He was born in Ripley, a son of Linda Miller and
Ronnie and Hellen Batten, all of Spencer. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and baseball. He was on the Little League all-star team 20 years ago. He attended Spencer High School.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Brianna Dawn Batten of Shock; maternal grandparents, Bill and Frances Miller of Spencer; two brothers, Jamie Batten and Jeff Batten, both of Spencer; one sister, Amber Sloan of Spencer; one half-sister, Crystal Batten of Spencer; and one stepbrother, Ryan Miller of Belpre, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James “Dick” Batten and Ella Mae Batten; and step-father, Roland M. Miller.
Service was Monday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Greathouse officiating. Burial was in Egypt Ridge Cemetery near Spencer.
Guy Carl Blosser
--Guy Carl Blosser, 96, formerly of Rutland, Vt., died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006 at his home.
He was born at Walton, a son of the late Maggie
and Lee Blosser. He graduated from Walton High School and entered the U.S. Army. He retired in 1960 as lieutenant colonel following 33 years of service. He was an officer in the European operation of World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a former member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 140 and the Dade City Lodge 48 Free and Accepted Masons of Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marion Soulia Blosser; five children, George Blosser of Rutland, Denver Blosser of Aiken, S.C., Dr. Sandralee Blosser of Harrisburg, Pa., Alcie Smith of Dayton, Ohio, and June Marie Lodsdon of Lorain, Ohio; and 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Shirley Blosser; and two sisters, Lenora Schoolcraft and Elsie Oberly.
Service was Friday at Trinity Episcopal Church, Rutland. Burial was in East Clarendon Cemetery, Vermont.

Garnette M. Camp
--Garnette M. Camp, 89, of Spencer died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006 at Roane General Hospital.
She was born in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Jesse and Bessie Gay Taylor Warren. She was a retired 30-year employee of G.C. Murphy, was a former cook at Reedy Elementary School and worked at the Reedy Waterworks office. She was a member of Reedy United Methodist Church where she served as a trustee and teenage Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of Reedy Rebekah Lodge, the Reedy Farm Women’s Club, Ladies Aid, Reedy Council and recorder and the Republican Women Committee. She was a part of the ground-breaking of the Reedy Waterworks, a leader of Reedy Lucky 4-H Club for 15 years, a Veteran Club member of G.C. Murphy and traveled setting up G.C. Murphy stores.
She is survived by one daughter, Jane Ellen Knowlton of Spencer; one half-brother, Jesse Eugene Warren of Senecaville, Ohio; and three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, John L. Camp; one brother, Martin Olin Warren; two half-sisters, Ethlyn Hardman Warren and Ernestine Warren Wright; grandparents, Elijah and Addie Mae Warren and Rebecca Hess Warren Taylor and Martin Autaway Taylor, by whom she was raised; and two grandsons.
Service was Saturday at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home with Rev. Smith Epling officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Spencer.
Ruby Jo Conley
--Ruby Jo Conley, 81, of Left Hand died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006 at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, following an extended illness.
She was born in Roane County, a daughter of the late Jasper and Bessie Pearl McGlothlin Truman. She was a homemaker and attended Henry’s Fork Baptist Church, Tariff.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harley C. Conley; one son, Harley A. Conley of Looneyville; two daughters, Linda Starcher of Ripley and Peggy Nichols of Canton, Ohio; one sister, Sybil Ellis of Parkersburg; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Garnet Batten; and four brothers, Ernest Truman, Sam Ellis, Cecil Ellis and Robert Truman.
Graveside service was Sunday at Clover Cemetery with Rev. Leon Strickland officiating.
John H. Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Charlotte Ann Epling
--Charlotte Ann Epling, 70, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., formerly of Spencer died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006 at East Cooper Hospital, Mt. Pleasant.
She was born at Liverpool, a daughter of the late Carl and Minnie Phillips Street. She retired from Kellwood Co. in 1995 after 43 years of service. She was a graduate of Gilmore High School, Sandyville. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and non-active member of Wetzel Chapter No. 27, Order of the Eastern Star, Spencer.
She is survived by one daughter, Robin Epling Jarvis of Charleston; two sons, Scot Epling of Morgantown and Robert Steven Epling of Asheboro, N.C.; two brothers, William Street of Charleston and Hershel Street of Little Hocking, Ohio; one sister, Kathryn “Kitty” Carson of Buckhannon; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Epling in 1989; two sisters, Lois Hines and Evelyn Horton; three brothers, John P. “Jay” Street, Ronald Street and Gerald Street.
Service is 1 p.m. Friday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Russell B. Stump officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Eventide Cemetery.
Jack D. Miller
--Jack D. Miller, 81, of Spencer died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006 at Roane General Hospital after a short illness.
He was born at Stover, a son of the late Robert Irl and Pathena Pearl Durbin Miller. He was retired from Columbia Gas Company and was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, Spencer. He served overseas in World War II in the 5th Armored Division, 85th Cavalry. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans. He was a well-known square dance caller and co-founder of Starlite Squares, Charleston. He was an avid reader of history, a farmer and outdoorsman and enjoyed wood splitting.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Conley Miller; one son, Jack Michael Miller of Huntington; one daughter, Lila Ann Gower of Richmond, Va.; and five grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Matthew; two brothers, Ted Miller and Maurice Miller; and one sister, Phyllis Brake.
Service was Monday at John H. Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Heilman officiating. Burial with military graveside rites was in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Zona.

Isaac Brooks Smith
--Isaac Brooks Smith, 86, of Harrisonburg, Va., died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006.
He was born in Akron, Ohio, a son of the late Rex H. and Nina May Hensley Smith. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1938 and after completing his teaching certification at Glenville State College, he began a teaching career at Trace Fork, a one-room school, in Roane County. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. After returning from the Army, he continued to teach and completed a master’s degree and administration certification from West Virginia University. He was principal and superintendent of schools in Clay County (1952-1961) and Jackson County (1961-1967). He also served as superintendent of schools in Mason County (1967-1971) and then moved back to Jackson County in 1972 as director of school maintenance and retired in 1975.
He is survived by his wife, Katie Elizabeth Vineyard Smith, whom he married in 1940; three children, Dr. Dennie Smith of College Station, Texas, Dr. Randy Smith of Ripley and Dr. Nina Smith of Harrisonburg; three siblings, Madlyn Backus of Accokeek, Md., Marion Harold and Steven Smith, both of Newton; and nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Timothy William and Lorraine Kathryn, and two brothers, Dennis Smith and Charles Smith.
Service was Saturday at Epworth United Methodist Church, Ripley. Burial was in Smith Cemetery, Uler.
John H. Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local hospice or Epworth United Methodist Church, Ripley WV 25271.
Ivan Wesley Williams
--Ivan Wesley Williams, 47, of Spencer died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006 at Roane General Hospital.
He was born in Charleston, a son of Delcie Faye Higginbotham and the late Ivan Claude Williams. He worked for Kroger for 27 years and was a former member of Ripley Tabernacle Baptist Church. He and his wife owned and operated SCENTsations & More in Spencer for over one year.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Williams; two sons, Justin and Tyler Letourneau of the home; one daughter, Jean Haff of Wisconsin; one brother, Terry Williams of Charleston; three sisters, Helen Martin of Dunbar, Joyce Carr of St. Albans, and Debra Schiable of St. Albans; special uncle, Robert Williams of Ripley; and four grandchildren.
Service was Tuesday at Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with Pastor Mike Elder officiating.
