McDonald’s rallies to claim softball crown

McDonald’s topped First Neighborhood Bank 11-8 Saturday to win the Roane County Little League softball championship. - McDonald’s overcame an early five-run deficit and went on to beat First Neighborhood Bank 11-8 Saturday afternoon to win the Roane County Little League softball crown.

Casey Lassiter went the distance for the winners in the pitcher’s circle, allowing 11 hits with eight strikeouts and six walks. She also helped her own cause with a pair of singles.

Chelsea Whiting smacked two doubles for the winners and drove in three runs. Emily Haverty also collected two hits and a trio of RBIs. Morgan Cottrell and Kate Mace each went 2-for-4 and Megan Hersman belted an RBI double.

Hillary Blosser worked four innings and took the pitching loss for FNB. Blosser had a big day at the plate as she was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Miranda Hall also went 3-for-3 with a double, Sarah Payne was 2-for-2 and Kasey Blosser and Courtney Slater both knocked in runs.

The game lasted for more than two hours and was played in 90-plus degree heat at the Williams Drive field.

Burke-Parsons-Bowlby defeated Traders Bank 8-5 for third place in a preliminary contest. Muriah Nutter tripled and picked up the pitching victory while Grace Westfall belted two hits and Karlee Nutter had two RBIs.
