Point Pleasant defended its regional title by cruising past host Calhoun County by a 52-point margin. Herbert Hoover was third, with coach Wayne Jarvis’ Raiders another spot back in the 12-team field.

Freshman Justin Fisher continued his season-long dominance by winning the regional title for Roane at 103 pounds. Fisher, unbeaten at 42-0, scored an easy 10-2 victory over Caleb Duong of Point in the championship match.

The Raiders had four regional runners-up in Brad Hickman at 112, Joey Maldonado at 119, Cody Clarkson at 130 and Eric Jarvis at 140.

Hickman, 43-8, made it to the finals before falling 5-3 to Point’s Rusty Maness. Maldonado, 33-7, also lost to a Big Black in the finals, as he was edged 3-2 by Phillip Allen. Clarkson, 38-11, dropped an 8-3 decision to Cody Clark of Calhoun in the championship round and Jarvis, 41-11, was pinned by Hoover’s Cody Moore.

Three more Raiders qualified for the state meet by finishing fourth. Justin Fisher at 125, Sky Parrish at 135 and Tyler Starcher at 171 each lost in the consolation finals. Parrish, a junior, is 22-15, while Starcher, also a junior, is 26-24.

Junior Justin Fisher, 24-2, forfeited in the consolation round after reinjuring his ankle in an 8-7 semifinal round loss to Justin Cline of Wirt County.

Other Raider marks for the tournament included Cody Carper, 0-2 at 145; Tyler Dolan, 0-2 at 152; Chris James, 0-2 at 215; and Caleb Greathouse, 1-2 (sixth place) at 285.

The state tournament continues Friday and Saturday at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena.
