Raiders 4-8 after busy week of action

Roane point guard Aaron Parsons puts up a shot in the lane during an LKC victory over Clay.

DREW HARDMAN/SPENCER NEWSPAPERS
- Gilmer County placed four players in double figures as the Titans ran past Roane County 72-54 in an LKC South match-up last Wednesday in Spencer.

The 6-4 Titans enjoyed a 17-point bulge in the two middle quarters on the way to dropping the Raiders to 3-7 for the season, 2-4 in the LKC.

Colter Taylor had 14 points off the bench and Josh Drake added 12 to lead the Raiders.

Gilmer got 12 each from William Radcliff and Doug Shattuck, 11 from Zach Burkhammer and 10 from Jordan Knight.

Matt Brohard scored 16 points and Josh Drake 12 as host Roane County romped past Clay County 62-40 Friday in an LKC South contest.

The Raiders (4-7 overall, 3-4 in the LKC) came out on fire, building a 10-0 lead just three minutes into the game. Brohard fueled the quick start with an inside hoop and a pair of 3-pointers from the right wing.

Roane cooled off and finished the first quarter up by 12-8. The Panthers (3-8) began to claw back and went ahead 14-12 on a basket by Jesse Street at the 5-minute mark of the second quarter. A stretch of eight and a half minutes during which the Raiders scored only two points ended with a bang. Aaron Parsons canned a trey from NBA range that was followed by a Steve Thomas hoop. Colter Taylor hit a shot at the buzzer to put Roane ahead 24-19 at halftime.

The Raiders were never threatened after that as the Panthers had trouble finding the range. A Brohard lay-up made the score 38-27 at the end of the third and Drake came alive in the fourth as the Raiders extended their advantage.

Dylan Vaughan and Matt Carte each scored eight points for Clay. Derek Davis had a team-high 10 boards for the Raiders.

Jimmy Hensley tallied 24 points for the Raider JV in a 60-56 loss to the Panthers.

The Tigers extended their 23-point halftime lead with a 10-point bulge in the third quarter to win going away.

Roane, which fell to 4-8 overall and 3-5 in the LKC, failed to have a double figure scorer. Derek Davis and Matt Brohard topped the Raiders with seven points each.

Wirt got 17 points each from Zach Moore and Alex Wilson to go along with 14 from Jesse Ward.

The Tigers also won the JV game, topping the Raiders 59-45 despite 10 points each from Jimmy Hensley and Matt Harper.

In the first game of the tripleheader, Roane’s freshmen were a 44-27 winner. Alex Mace scored 14 and R.J. Burdette 13 for the Raiders.
