Devils end Raiders’
hoop season at 2-18

It took a while, but heavily favored Ravenswood lived up to its billing and drilled Roane County 70-45 in the sectional boys basketball tournament.
The Red Devils, ranked No. 6 in Class AA after winning the state title a year ago, improved to 18-4 on the season as they ended the campaign for the Raiders at 2-18.
Ravenswood led by just 12-6 after the first eight minutes despite being helped by Raider turnovers. Those turnovers, coupled with a spate of offensive rebounds, allowed the Red Devils to build a 34-15 halftime bulge that essentially decided the outcome.
Ravenswood enjoyed a 38-25 edge on the boards and outshot the Raiders 44 percent (27-of-61) to 42 percent (20-of-48) from the floor.
Seniors Colter Taylor and Rhett Atkinson, and junior Alex Mace, each scored nine points to lead coach Greg Alfred’s Raiders. Atkinson added nine rebounds and three steals, with Taylor also collecting three steals and Jimmy Hensley two assists.
Luke Murray, who sank 11-of-21 free throws, had a game-high 21 points for the Red Devils to go along with six assists. Ryan Benson had 19 points and Chad Small 10.
