Lady Raiders face Catholic in NOC
Roane County’s girls basketball team finds itself in a familiar position as it prepares for the LKC Night of Champions. The Lady Raiders will play Parkersburg Catholic this Saturday at Doddridge County High in West Union with third place in the conference on the line. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
Last season, Roane edged Williamstown 53-50 at home in the LKC consolation game.
“It would be a good habit to have,” Lady Raider head coach Frank Farrar said of repeat NOC appearance.
Roane was 8-6 with a 6-4 mark in LKC play. Clay County won the South and will take on North division winner St. Marys for the conference title in Saturday’s second contest.
Weather postponed Roane’s scheduled home game with Clay on Tuesday. The Lady Raiders were to host Calhoun County on Wednesday and Farrar hoped to reschedule the Clay game for today (Thursday) when other conference teams are involved in placement games.
“It has been a crazy year,” Farrar said. “You play and then you’re off a week and then you play again. Right now, we’re playing well, but we haven’t played since last Tuesday.”
The Lady Raiders’ recent contests include an upset of No. 6 Ravenswood and a road win over LKC South foe Gilmer County that put them a game up on the Titans for second place in the division.
On Saturday, they will face a Parkersburg Catholic team that is 13-4 and ranked No. 3 in Class A. The Crusaderettes fell 59-55 in overtime to Class A No. 1 St. Marys on Monday.
Along with the game, two Lady Raiders will be involved in skills competitions during the NOC. Kate Williams will participate in the free throw shooting contest and Micky Rhodes is entered in the Top Gun 3-point shooting contest. Williams, a senior, will also be honored as her team’s top scholar. |
