Roane County’s Lady Raiders started their 2007-08 basketball season on a winning note Tuesday night as they pounded sectional rival Clay County 65-38 on the Panthers’ home court.
The Lady Raiders got off to a 22-11 start and never looked back as they avenged the three losses they suffered to Clay last season when the Panthers were a state tournament team. Roane’s lead had expanded to 28 points at 45-17 by the end of the third quarter.
Ashli Knotts hit for 19 points and Jessica Roberts added 16 to top Roane in the LKC South contest. Roberts also contributed 12 rebounds and five steals while Knotts and Sammy Sloan were credited with six steals apiece.
Sierra Carver and Kelli Cole scored 12 apiece for Clay.
Taylor Bradley poured in 25 points in the preliminary to lead Roane’s JV past the Panthers 82-31. Erica Ellison added 13 and Beth Garrett 10 for the winners.
