Lady Raiders 4-5 after LKC games
Roane County’s girls were able to gain a split in a pair of LKC South basketball games played last week. The Lady Raiders (4-4, 3-2 South) fell on the road to Braxton County 51-46 last Wednesday and rebounded to beat South Harrison 44-35 Saturday afternoon at home.
At Braxton, the Lady Raiders couldn’t hold an 18-7 first quarter lead as the Eagles forged ahead in the second half. Taylor Bradley had a big offensive night for Roane with 20 points and Corri Phillips led Braxton with 10 points.
It was Roane’s turn to come from behind against South Harrison. The Hawks soared to a 19-14 lead at the break only to see the Lady Raiders rally on the strength of a 16-4 run in the third period.
Bradley again led RCHS, this time with 13 points, and Clarissa Pinson chipped in with 10. Brooklyn Pavalok paced Roane rebounders with 13 and Becky Frye was credited with eight steals.
Wirt County came from behind to hand Roane County a 62-59 girls basketball defeat Tuesday in Elizabeth.
The Tigers were up 31-23 at the half before the Lady Raiders (4-5, 3-3 LKC South) roared out of the locker room with a 23-14 advantage in the third period. Wirt was able to pull away in the final eight minutes to improve to 4-5.
Roane had three double figure scorers – Clarissa Pinson with 14, Taylor Bradley with 11 and Kate Williams with 10.
