South champ Raiders set for LKC volleyball tourney

- LKC South champion Roane County will battle Ritchie County in the opening match of the conference volleyball tournament Saturday morning at Calhoun County High School in Mt. Zion.

Coach Sue Knotts’ Lady Raiders (20-7-1) and the LKC North runner-up Rebels (19-7-1) are scheduled to meet in one semifinal beginning at 10 a.m.

North champion Tyler Consolidated, which like Roane is unbeaten in its division, and South runner-up Wirt County will play in the second semifinal.

Winners of the first two matches will square off for the LKC championship.

Annie Hodge had a big night to help lead Roane County past Clay County in an LKC volleyball match last Wednesday in Spencer.

Hodge had team highs with 30 points and 61 sets to go along with 40 spikes, nine kills and three blocks for the Lady Raiders, who took three of four games from the Panthers.

Ashli Knotts was in on 61 spikes with 21 kills and blocked eight for Roane, which improved to 19-7-1 overall and stayed unbeaten at 6-0 in the LKC South.

The RCHS JV improved to 7-3 with a three-game win over the Panthers. Megan Haverty led the way with 17 points.

Roane County’s volleyball team wrapped up a perfect season in the LKC South with a three-game sweep of Braxton County Tuesday in Flatwoods.

The Lady Raiders won 25-23, 25-16, 25-19 to improve to 20-7-1 for the season heading into the conference tournament this weekend.

Cheyenne Hall’s 20 points were high for Roane. Annie Hodge led with 56 sets and Ashli Knotts contributed 47 spikes with 10 kills. Morgan Cottrell had a team-high seven blocks.

Roane’s junior varsity moved to 8-3 for the season by rallying from a first-game loss to take the next two from the Eagles. Megan Haverty paced a balanced scoring effort with 15 points.
