The Spencer Middle School choir will present the musical “Hi, Ho, Robin Hood” to the public and the student body this week.

The one-act musical is based on the tradition of Robin Hood with the addition of Lady Merle as the main villain, instead of the Sheriff of Nottingham.

The first of three scenes introduces Robin Hood, played by Jimmy O’Brien, and his merry band and their first encounter with the sheriff, played by Kennedy Roberts, and Lady Merle, played by Amanda West. Little John is played by Doug Smith while Friar Tuck is played by Mitchell Crihfield.

At the end of the first scene a plot is hatched to capture Robin Hood.

The second scene is a county fair with an archery contest to win a golden arrow. At the end of the scene Robin Hood and his merry band, played by Samantha B. Nichols, Courtney Slater, Courtney Nicholson, Holly Longfellow and Adrianna McGlothlin, manage to escape to Sherwood Forest.

The third scene is a return to Sherwood Forest and a battle between Robin Hood, Lady Merle and the sheriff.

Choir director Scott Greathouse said students are involved with every aspect of the production, including painting sets, preparing costumes, operating lights and sound and managing the stage and props.

Other participants include Sierra Schoolcraft as Maid Marian, Kassy White as the sheriff’s wife, Chain Campbell as Salome, Cody Kudrick as Will Scarlett, Brittany Deel as Annabelle, Holly Divins-Stoll as Beth, Tessa Hickman as Mother Meg, Samantha D. Nichols as the old widow, Isaiah Crihfield and Kenneth Kudrick as soldiers and Greg Bottenfield as the stranger.

Townspeople are played by Chania Waters, Shelby Patterson, Molly Titus, Kayla Walker, Judy Newton, Brittany Goff, Danielle Davenport and Sarah Dennis.

Stage managers are Jessica Griffith and Emily Carpenter. Muriah Nutter is in charge of lights and sound while stage crew members are Alyssa Boggs, Ciara Rogers, Maria Carper, Hannah Drennen, Kipra Rhodes, Savannah Harper, Brandon DeWeese, Mary Beth Runnion, Amber Bailey, Anna Farrar, Karlee Nutter, Eva Tupper, Holly Gerstell, Aerial Ash, Faith Hersman, Christina Bowling and McKayla Jones.

The play will be performed for the public this evening (Thursday) at 7 p.m. and for the student body the following day.
